Hello, I had addressed the root issues (tune-up mostly) related to the 2 of the 4 clogged cat converters by replacing the front & rear 2 cat converters on the passenger side so it would pass overall and emission inspection on my 1994 Q45.

I didn't do the driver's side front & rear cat converters at the time due to the VERY tight space for the welding of the front cat convert per my mechanic. Althought I passed the inspection without the 2 clogged ones, I want to replace it next for environmental reasons. This week, I found the whole passenger side exhaust setup that contains the 2 cat converters where it goes from the engine's 4 exhaust manifold pipes to the pipe contains the 2 cats from a local used auto parts yard.

The image may looks something like this

Flash lighting into the cat converters shows no clog so it's looks good for me.

Question: in your view, how many billable hours should the shop charge me for the labor to replace the setup I found at the yard?

Thanks!

Welcome to our forums.

Basically, that is like putting on dirty underwear. Not worth the effort.

Using after markets catalytic converters is like putting on paper under wear; it will work for a while.

OEM converters are made to a much higher standard and last hundreds of thousands of miles if not abused. Read Q45tech's posts on the subject.

90-93 were different animals compared to 94-96 [more difficult EPA standards]..............for some reason the later models tended to fail/clog IF you abused them with excess fuel [misfire or MAF problems].

I can't find Tech's post on these. I'm trying to fix/rebuild my exhaust system ( gutted cats and removed pre-cats)

Find a wreck and swap...............tough to fix gutted precats without replacing exhaust manifolds.
