So the fact that my drivers side beam was a purplish color ever since I bought it, should have prompted me to post this sooner. I just thought that the previous guy put a different Kelvin rating bulb in there... so the other night as I'm driving it finally retires itself... I was able to get it to come back on intermittently, by flipping the switch back and forth on the turn signal stalk....now nada...
Another problem is that there may be a loose connection in the turn signal stalk, because sometimes at night after I come out of a turn, when the stalk resets itself... every now and again the low beams would just blink on their own.. weird...

Has anyone managed to retrofit anything into these cars in terms of these readily available plug and play HID kits with the external ballasts? Albeit with minor modifications??? Given the age of the car, I'm not too interested in buying a brand new complete housing, nor a used one for that matter... I think someone in post here said that regular halogens would work in 99 and later FGY 33s. Is this true? If it is, then I'm thinking I might see if these new LED bulbs would fit the bill...

Are you just assuming that your existing ballast is bad? I'd certainly try a new D2R bulb before going too far forward with gutting the whole system...

Well, just going with a new bulb is a good thought....I suppose I'll buy these cheap sets from Ebay first... if those don't work then I'll have to consider doing some mods and buy some sort of D2R kit.

i'm completely new to replacing HID bulbs...

i'm assuming the bulb is bad, I've found a few replacement bulbs on ebay for like $15 a pair 6000k

any D2R bulb will fit?

did the 99 q45t come with halogen bulbs as an option as well? because I'm finding halogen's as well... this stuff is confusing. lol

picked up a $15 pair of 6000k HID bulbs on ebay.

then found out I didn't have the tools to change out the bulbs.. need to remove the airbox/intake and battery.

so had a shop do it and cost me $65. lol.

now my beams don't look "straight" or something.. dunno how to describe it... I can see 'beams' of bright light, like it's not uniform. I can't see how the bulbs themselves would cause this, i'd assume it's a reflector issue.... but i'm not gonna bother with it.

the 6000k bulbs look great. like a silver-ish purplish bluish color, I was afraid of them being too blue or purple and looking cheesy... the color's perfect.

now I gotta change out the fog-light bulbs with bright yellow.

ok... so I got around to finally taking out the bulbs... and it's pretty clear that the bulbs are the issue, not the ballasts. I have a question... it's obvious that one or both bulbs are not OEM... the question is which? The one with the greyed gas capsule is obviously the burned out one... that is made by Phillips.... the other is not marked at all....
The bulbs are also shaped differently... why does the Phillips bulb have an extended tip for the electrode? Also, why does it have these metal clips at the base?

I should mention that I have still not received the bulbs I ordered yet... shipping issue... or perhaps they broke in transit... I got the seller to send me another pair...
So, If you're anything like me, you cannot digest wheat.... no, just kidding,
If you are like me, then you've decided to protect your Q with an aftermarket alarm... the problem is that I took the battery out and don't want to put it back in until the new bulbs are installed... might be another few days, but I decided to get a head start because Curiosity killed the cat, it left me alone. Sooo how do you keep the alarm active against the thugs who are using the five finger discount this holiday season??? Use a spare!! Okay, okay, Maxwinch, I know it's not the right size battery, but it helps in a situation where you have to park your Q outside because the garage is occupied by your Subaru Forester whose head gasket job is taking forever!!! :bang It was from my old home alarm panel... works just fine as a backup....

And here is the way to keep it charged during the day....

The only part that sucks so far is the fact that I had to go to Home Friggin Depot to buy a whole screwdriver set with all size bits just to get my hands on a T-20 security torx bit.

Well, I'm back in business, but I am thoroughly peed off that Nissans part manufacturer ICHIKO decided to use a T-20 security torx on the bulb cover. I suppose they were trying to keep the amateurs from getting electrocuted at the time, when HID was a novel upgrade. I returned the torx screwdriver set, I got rid of those useless screws, and replaced them with a #6 1/2" regular phillips sheet metal screw.... a little easier, and it went in nicely, without stripping the thread in the plastic. Just be careful and feel for resistance when turning.

As for your problem.... I believe you would have to fiddle with the screws on top of the fixture.... I don't know which is horizontal and vertical....

Now, go forth and break something!.... J/k!!
