I have 2006 350z, it's black with black interior. The black latex paint on the driver and pasinger doors and the center glove box latch is scratiching off. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks...

Same here i have an 06 and everythings perfect, but i didnt know there was paint on the interrior of the car. What part are you talking about? Since yours is black on black are you sure its not plastic or something?

I have black interior also and do not have that issue. Seems like he might just actually have scratches on the interior parts and it looks as if it is Paint that is comming off when its actually just a scratch. I think i might have a spot that gives it that effect but the parts thereselves should just be black in general. hmm

Well i found an interior guy, and he wet sanded it down and painted it. But it scratched again today. So i talked to this other place (904 Motorsports Jacksonville FL.) and they said they could wrap it in sued. To clear up where it is scratching, its the smooth black part by the controls for the windows and door locks. Also the little button that opens the small center glove box above the stereo.

So i think i am going to go with the sued, also i took apart my dash because i am in stalling a new head unit and amp and all that fun stuff. so i bought some plastic paint and fixed the button on the center glove box.

I saw a post in the classified of someone selling the inside door panel off an '06. Looked like it was in great condition.

I have a 2006 Z tourer and I love it... with one big exception. I bought the car from a family member with 5000km on the clock, always garaged and in immaculate "as new" condition (as you would expect). However, after approx 6000km, I noticed that some of the painted finishes (coated with a matt black, almost rubberised coating) on the interior trims (i.e. door rests and glove box) had also started to show unsightly scratches. That’s right… 6000km. The scratches got worse, particularly on the driver’s-side door trim and glove box (centre console) where the trim displays no durability whatsoever. Assuming the problem to be a fault with the trim, I raised it with my local service centre and lodged a claim with Nissan hoping that the repairs could be carried out during the 10,000km service. To my astonishment, the claim was rejected. I then contacted Nissan directly to have the vehicle assessed by a Nissan Assessor. By this stage, the arm rests on both doors, the glove box, door handle fixture and even the gauge cluster had paint missing or scratches (that’s right… the gauge clusters!). I was later informed that the claim had been rejected and the damage would not be covered under warranty as it had been caused by ‘wear’. Struggling with the idea that I could actually ‘wear’ out the paint finish on the gauge cluster after a mere 6000km, I put forward to the assessor the possibility that a ‘faulty’ finish may have actually predisposed the ‘wear’, but still the claim was denied. Since then, several independent repairers have provided quotes, but all have commented that the finish should not be so easily damaged. The latest repair quote came in at $4500 to remove, strip and refinish the components.

I know exactly what part of the door you’re talking about. I have an ’08 and my wedding ring scratched mine within the first week of having it. I love my Z but the quality if the interior is somewhat lacking. This is one of the few consistent complaints about the 350Z that you’ll find in just about every creditable review.

sounds like the clear preventative solution here, as with most other problems, is to avoid getting married

Apologies for not posting sooner. The photos in this album were taken after approx 8000km. The damage is worse now, to the point that I have actually scratched the paint off the button on centre storage compartment to expose the silver plastic below (in an attempt to make it look less tacky until I figure out how to proceed)[IMG][/IMG] http://www.facebook.com/album....72530

You would think so... plus my blood and sweat must also be concentrated acid I don't wear rings or jewelry... and don't have finger nails either (certainly not long ones anyone). These marks have all come from normal use or minor contacts. The finish just has no durability. I would expect better in a car that cost AU$6,000 let alone AU$60,000.

I have a 2006 350Z with the same problem. Only 3500 miles and the interior door handle scratches every time it is touched. Leaves a thin white scratch across the black paint. This is a problem that I have never seen in any car of any value. Must be a problem with the paint used on a certain batch of cars since some owners do not have this problem. I intend to visit the dealership soon to complain.

you may be right with it being a batch paint problem, as all the complaints seem to be with the 06. i have an 05 with black interior and dont have any problems.

Haha! I have the same problem, I accidentally scratched it with my keys while getting in. I have also wondered how to remedy the issue.

I covered the door switch finishers with carbon fiber covers on my 06. They were getting scratched up at 20k miles. I don't have the other scratch issues.

well eveidently all of us with 2006 are ones with this issue, Does anyone know anyone at NISSAN with any pull ? My console lid ABOVE the radio was worn/faded at about 2000 miles, The driver arm rest/window switch cover was scatched very easily through normal wear at about 5k . This is obviously a problem with the latex type coating that was used with the black trim. the console lid is unsightly and makes me embarrassed to drive with my top down . This is not an issue of abuse but obviously the paint was applied too thin or is defective. I have seen the door Arm rest aftermarket covers in carbon fiber and such, but have yet to see something economical for the door /cluster lid above the radio. Even the radio has this latex layer on it and now after 18k miles I am noticing around the volume knob that it is wearing off. This is just too much for a car this nice . DOES ANYONE know of a solution for the cluster lid/door ?? This is the spot where navigation system would go if equipped. It basically is a small compartment holder located above the radio .I have seen some vinyl /dash trim kits but am very leary of trying one of these as they do not seem to come with this door/cover. I am seeking a cost effective solution, so please reply if you have found one. I am curious about the suede fix but never saw an update on it. And to all you jokers, I do not have long sharp fingernails, etc. This is obviously an issue on the black interior of the 2006 models. Someone please help. The nissan dealer quoted me 187 US dollars to order a new cluster lid. I have tried with no luck to find at salvage yard . I believe part no is 68520M. Thanks

I am in the process of lodging a consumer dispute against Nissan through Dept of Fair Trading in NSW. I will use this string to support the case, and update everyone with the outcome. I have now done 17,000km and the situation has progressively worsened.Re: the lid, I recently got a quote the various surfaces I need coated using a durable carbonfibre-like dip for about $1500. This included the console lid. Hope this is some help.

I seem to have come across an answer at least for the interior window switch panels. I do not have the link handy but found a nice thread where the guys stripped the rubberized (crap) paint off of the swith clovers, wet sanded , primed, wet sanded , then used duplicolor plastic/vinyl black matte interior paint( can be found at pep boys) , 1-2 coats, wetsanded again and applied final 1-2 coats. It really looked great and saved a bunch of money. I saw also that some people had actually used a rubberized(also duplicolr) black paint made for undercoating. It looked ok, but had more of a textured finish. I am not sure how well this or the other would work on the compartment lid and button but I am definitely going to try on my switch covers. In addition, you can actually pick any color of the plastic vinyl paint as it comes in various colors. My interior is basically black so i will stick with it, but for some more creative folks you may try this. The pictures I saw looked really good. i will try and post pics when i am done but it may take a few days as I have other things going on. This is definitely worth a few bucks to try.I ave also noticed that Beetle owners have similar issues but even worse with the dash and handles, etc. they pretty much have come up with the same solution and they have some creativity. The hardest part sounds like stripping the rubberized paint off . I am going to try some acetone at first ( not leaving it on for long , in combination with wet sanding) . wish me luck. Oh, and to the last post, it has nothing to do with sun dried paint. It is just crappy paint put on very thin.

here is a thread with pics on the whole process . Just make sure you read the whole thread http://www.350zmotoring.com/fo....html. I am going a little bit different route on mine after repainting them with the paint the guys in the other thread used, so I will let you know how they turn out. I am going to actually try using a clear coat on mine to prevent any future scratching so hopefully it works out well. I used duplicolor flat black primer on mine instead of the grey, and it looks very nice just primered. Almost made me cry LOL I aslo took the primer and sprayed the cubby hole lid button real quick to check the match (without stripping) and it was a virtually undetectable match. I am waiting to fish the switchplate covers before actually moving to the cubby hole cover. I really hope this helps some folks who were frustrated like me.
