Hey, I have an 2011 G37x Coupe. Was just curious if anyone uses DS rather than D on a regular basis and if so does it eat into gas mileage or put more stress on the engine/trans?

I very rarely use the manual mode but there is a pretty big difference in feel between DS and D when tooling around town.

I bought the car in January so I'm just enjoying the first summer here in the north east and the great engine sounds with the wiindows down.

It depends on my mood. If I want to play around, I'll kick it into DS mode. I'm sure it eats more gas than regular....same with manual mode. However, I almost always turn of the VDC if its nice out.

I've checked it on a few tanks, I get about .5 mpg better on D. Hardly worth being concerned about. My daily commute is 50 miles, about 38 of it interstate @60-75mph, about 8 in a two lane 55 zone, the rest through town @30-40. I suspect the difference would be greater if the proportions were different.

DS just basically uses oppositve logic of D...

DS shifts to keep you in the power band and D shifts for gas milage...

in DS mode shifts are quicker and less often, but manual mode is best for sporty driving.

Thanks for the input and ideas. Summer is when I am in the mood for DS and Manual driving. Usually I go with D but sometimes I am really in the mood for a sportier drive and DS does deliver that.
