The aforementioned parts Q has a drive shaft that looks newer than the car. Is there a good way to determine if it is worth taking, and how difficult will it be to remove without the car on a lift ? I've never taken a drive shaft off any car, not sure exactly what is involved.

On the J you need to have the car jacked up as high as you can in the front and rear.

4 bolts on the rear, 2 mind on the support.

Lower the rear down and then remove shaft from transmission

reverse the steps and remove the drive shaft from the front area of the car.

A lot easier to do if the car is up high like on a lift.

Not sure how much harder on the Q but I am sure someone will chime in

Had to sacrifice a cheap box wrench to get in around the nuts on the rear connection. Had to grind a little access for the bolt end. Do not use an open end wrench as you will round the nuts like my mechanic did. Total tool cost $5.00

Take a look at the flex discs near the transmission side to see if there are any cracks or tears. Also, make sure there are no dents on the shafts.

Removing it is pretty straight-forward. Sometimes you have to fight with the bolts on the diff. flange.
