clutch in, gas out, shift, gas in, clutch out.

No one can really explain to you how to drive one, you have to go do it to learn how it takes some practice, but go to an empty parking lot or somewhere where there is very little traffic take someone who knows how to drive a stick and let them take you through it once you do it a few times it gets really easy

It's a nice little article. Still, this is the kind of thing you can easily overthink. Just relax and find a nice empty parking lot to practice in.

Also, as is so often said, the clutch isn't an On/Off switch.

be very smooth and easy and think of it as a fulcrum as one goes in and the other goes out

shifting is much easier if you just keep the gas planted on the floorboard and just very quickly punch the clutch in while you throw it to the next gear...then just let the clutch back out as fast as you can ;)

Hi,Find someone to teach you and give ya confidence.I've only drive Auto cars and then I bought a Mustang 5.0Lwhich was 5-spd. Let me tell you, the 5.0L as thefirst car to learn 5-spd wasn't very easy.

But anywho, if you want to do it on yer own, you needto find a way to get to an open lot and just mess around.

Best thing would be to find a friend or family who knowshow to drive and let them teach you.

Bye!

make sure your left leg is ALWAYS right by the clutch, practice starts by just letting go of the clutch, if you realease it slow enough you will move eventually, after that you catch on quickly, if you ever feel the car is about to stall, just clutch in and your laughing.

I actually learned how to drive stick in my 240. I actually had my friend test drive it to make sure it was in a good condition and then I drove it home from the dealership... the thing is.. I was confident adn I had played many realistic games and so I knew the concept... so I got her home in one peice.. and without stalling more than 2 times the whole trip. I live about 25 miles from the place... I took her on the freeway right away and all... after that, it was just practice... =) i ended up burning my clutch in Hollywood on the infamous hills with a 65 grade climb and bumper to bumper trafic... movind an inch every 5 minutes... so yea... taht night i burned it.. but I learned quick!

try thinking of the clutch like u would the brake on an auto...as u let off the clutch the car inchs forward.....add some gas and u go faster. if ur ever unsure about anything, just push the clutch in and think it through. Once u get her rolling it's easy. Just take it easy and learn one stall at a time ;-)

That's the way I'm going to learn, assuming I ever manage to find a car :)

Cool I learned how to drive stick in my 240 too. Mom taught me...and is teaching me how to double clutch...though I'm not gonna use that skill too much;-).

The only "trick" that I figured out when I was first learning to drive stick is this. You can let the clutch out as slowly as you want to.

Once I was test driving one of those new Celicas at this dealership. I rolled up to a stop sign and it slipped my mind that the Reverse gate was where the 1st would be in my S14. Well, luckily there weren't any cars behind me, because it sure freaked out the sales person.
