If it could be done to a VH45DE (1990-1996 Q45 engine) would it help in any way?

I may be getting ahead of myself but I think I know how to do it.

What I like about these cars compared to modern cars is the connection to the engine through the cable; You have that resistance that is really lacking with drive by wire systems with no delay.

There are really no benefits and am not sure why they have gone to drive by wire over a cable.

There is no Idle Air Control Valve on Drive By Wire cars. Traction Control requires only one butterfly valve. Less hoses due to no IACV. I am sure there is more.

But your right you do feel less connected to the car with Drive by wire.

I can't say that I notice a disconnect in our G with DBW. It's just a cost savings measure, as mentioned above... everything air-intake can be accomplished by the computer talking to the servo on the throttle body.
