Are there really four drive belts on my 1997 Q45t? I checked the owner's manual and service manual, but only see three in the diagrams. Where is the fourth belt?

Behind the first 3!

Call Joe and get them all, and inspect the pulley assembly bearings very carefully! Any sound or hint of unsmoothness is an indication to replace now with similar top quality bearing.

One each for the power steering and A/C. Two for the alt / water pump assy. Hard to 'splain, but it will become immediately obvious when you commence wrenchin' and pull the fan off.

Took me about 2-3 hours or so. But, it was bitter cold out and I'm a big wuss. Not that big a deal, and not worth giving the dealer 380 bucks or whatever heinous amount of cash they wanted. Sure am glad that I'm not a bimbo chick.

But, my PS belt is a bit loose and gives me crap the first start of the day when it's really cold out. Better too loose than too tight in my mind. Five minutes later all's copacetic. I'll fix it this spring, or dump it when I win the lottery.

The chances of you replacing the now glazed PS belt this Spring is much greater than winning the lottery.

With belts from Joe (just over $100, I think), new premium bearings (6), I think my specialty shop only charged two hours of labor.

Thanks so much for the insight and expert online diagnosis of my perfectly fine, non "glazed" drive belt which will not be replaced, only tightened a tad this spring.

You're like "WEB MD/Q45" on crank. You crack me up! I LOVE this site!

You just can't resist to amaze yourself (and the rest of us). Go ahead....I'm waiting......I promise that I won't reply and you can have the last word.

In all my mechanical incompetence, love oldmako.
