Next week I'm taking my car to LA to my trusted mechanic and I just figured out that my 97' still has original drive belts at 84k, or at least not replaced since I got it at 42k in 2000....should I order these from Joe and replace them???

Also doing shocks/struts (thanks to Onetone and Falk) and going to get him to replace sway bar bushings and flushing transmission and radiator, really not due for full tune-up yet but what else at 84k and 9 years should I have them do at 1/2 the price of Bay Area meachanics?

If you don't mind my asking, who might that be?

Maybe I won't have to drive down to San Diego to see Jerry!

I think OEM belts from joe are cheaper than belts from autozone... I spent like $35 (roughly $10 per belt if memory serves) for all 3 belts, and when Ross got belts for his they were more like $20 per belt.. for some offbrand goodyear belt...

At almost 90k your almost 3x the service interval for belts! I certainly wouldnt want my car overheating because I didnt repalce the belts soon enough!

Have him do the plugs too if they are original. There are two PCV valves.

i'd also drop the pan and clean mags replace screen if not done previously. mine was pretty scungy at 78k on the fy33.fuel filter? in an odd place RR. there are 4 belts vs. 3 on G50, check water pump and idlers while you're in there.

thanks for the info, my mechanic is called Z-Expert, Rich is the owner and I have been going to him for over 10 years. He's worked on my Z, Maxima, the wife's sentra and now lots of Infiniti's. He's great, charges a very reasonable rate, and gets it right or makes it right. 310-396-7200, I know the dude in SD is great, but Venice is a heck of a lot closer to you than San Diego.

I'm calling and ordering the drive belts tomorrow along witha fuel filter. I think the Drive belts were changed by the dealership at 45k when I bought the car.

Everything cool man!!

Thanks for the info. Dealership's expensive and now with gas prices (going down to SD) would be interesting to say the least, so it'd help to have a reliable and knowledgeable Q guy around.

You know the only thing I’ve ever done to the Q outside the dealership has been the suspension at Stillen’s and the sunroof at Jerry’s.I’m not a mechanic and I always thought that going to the dealership was the best thing because all the parts are OEM, plus they KNOW the Q.

Sometimes I feel that some of those young guys I see inside the shop at the dealership working on the G50 Qs are basically swapping parts rather than being mechanics. Also, the manager is always pushing me to get a new car. It’s like they’re “tired” of working on the 94 model or something. One thing I gotta say though; they ALWAYS give me a loaner.
