Drive axel came out while turning a corner so we decided to replace it. After replaceing it, it now the whole front end jumps when turning either right or left. What did we do wrong? seem'd simple enough to replace, but with devestating consequences. Help. Sorry, forgot to say it's a 1996 infinity i30

Welcome to NICO.

Driver or passenger side? Passenger side axle has a bracket that goes on the axle that mounts to the rear of the engine block.

Sorry, Drive side. After installing the axle it seemed ok for first 4 or 5 corners, then started jumping as if the side were not sincing. Even tried a different axle,(per Autozone). Got worse after that. Hopefully you can help me. By the way thanks for answering so fast.

Is your I30 an I30t by chance? Also look for a silver tag on the engine firewall, it will list your paint code, chassis code, and transmission code something like RE4FO4A. See if the last letter on the trans code is an A or a V and let me know.

Not an i30t, just an i30. Transmission code is RE4F04V FN36.

The V indicates you have a limited slip differential. I would verify that you got the correct axle.

Also, did you check the lower control arm, wheel bearings, etc for excessive play?

According to Auto Zone we have the correct Axle for limited slip. Everything else is tight, no excessive play. It's as if the wheels are not in Sinc when turning.Feels like one turns at 1 speed and the other is turning at another, making it feel as if one wheel is sliding sideways. Just letting you know how it feels when turning.
Again thanks for the quick response. We have an 18 month old and another due in 2 weeks and need the car as soon as possible.

OK, put on the parking brake and jack up the front end so that both wheels are off the ground. Turn each wheel by hand. Have someone look at the other side while you are doing this. Check to see that both wheels are turning the same direction.

Does it seem to drive alright in a straight line (no alignment issues)?

When the old axle came out, did it have the C-ring still attached on the end of the axle?

Yes it seems ok going in a straight line. Alignment was just done 3 months ago. Will get it on jacks as soon as my Dad gets here and I'll get back to you. Yes the ring was still attached.
orry, Mom's car's starterwent out, putting that in first.

Will work on this tomorrow. Had to go to work for awhile. I'll contact you then. Again Thanks

Car on stands now. Turned tires as asked yesterday and both turn the direction. Turned both ways also (right and left) and still turns the same direction. There is alot of play , if holding tire and slightly turning, there's play before turning other tire.

The slight delay in the other wheel turning is ok. If the aligned is ok, there are no loose components, and the wheels are turning the same direction...I'm at a loss as to what the problem could be. The only thing I can possibly think of is that there is an internal problem with the differential that is not related to the VLSD coupling.

We removed the axle again to see if there was any wear on the gears and everything looks great. Still doing the same thing after reinstalling. Is there a way to disconnect the LSD control and see if it still does it? If so, where is the control located and how would we do it? It seems, if it's disconnected, the car should drive normal. Am I correct?

The test to see if the wheels spin the same way tests the viscous LSD. That's why I am at a loss for the moment.

I just thought if we could disconnect the control it might tell us if the control is bad or not. If you have any more suggestions let me know please. and if you know where to disconnect the control, please let me know. Thanks

Just thought I'd let you know, it's doing it giong straight now, not bad straight, but still jumping. Tire wear looks like one tire turns and the other skips sidways. One thing I forgot to tell you is that it doesn't start right away. You can make about 5 to 7 turns either way before it starts jumping, but once it starts it continues all the time. Weird that it doesn't do it when it's cold.. Anyone else have any Ideas????????
