I was wondering I know in general the 240sx is a great car to drift with, but since i have a convertible is the chassis gonna be flexing a lot when im drifting and is it a stiff ride? You guys that have roll bars did help make ur car have a stiffer ride or did it not make a difference at all, the reason I'm asking all of this is because i will be getting into the drift seen when May rolls back around next year. So an advice u guys have, that would help to better prepare me or my car would be greatly appreciated, Another thing i have tein springs on my 240sx, i was looking at coil overs and man those things are just to d@!# expensive, do u guys have any suggestions on coil overs that are good within the say hmmm$400 price range?

1. Yeah it's sloppy.2. coilovers under $400? buy used - from a respectable owner/source.

Nismo94 - I know this is blasphemy - but if I had to do it over again, I would keep my drift car a coupe and my daily pimper a vert. I.E. don't go there if you don't need to.

Right now, I'm doing the opposite. My 318ti is a daily and my vert is for drifting.

If you're really serious about it and want to compete, a vert isn't the best platform. But casually, it will drift just about as good as a hard top. The body is stiffer and weighs more, but these are pretty much the main differences.

And yeah, coilovers are damned expensive. Haven't bothered looking for any myself because of this.

Im pretty much in agreement with wireless alpha, except in general Im not a fan of buying used aftermarket suspension at least I wouldnt recommend it. (unless i had to buy suspension for a beater car which in that case i would). anything you add suspension wise will definetly stiffen the chassis. thats generally what you'll want when drifting as it will help make the car a little more predictable when your outta control. I also wouldnt expect it to be a comfy ride by any means if you plan to daily drive the car as well.

$400.00 coilovers are probably gona be some e-bay no name brand or cheap megan racing stuff. Youll probably have to lowball some used if you wanna have a brand name label.

I know its not a vert but I know a few local guys here that "drift" their hatchbacks with nothing more than lowering springs and a couple bolt ons like intake exhaust, springs, rims bla blah blah... no vlsd on one of the cars ....so i guess anything is possible

do yourself a favor, get a GOOD suspension, great brakes, take it from there. you can drift with anything. your car will only perform as well as the quality of the parts allow the car to do so. lousy ebay parts = spending more in the long run. do what i do and keep your eyes open in the classified section. you'll find a great deal in there sometimes. good luck! one last piece of advice, whatever your budget is, double it and thats what its gonna cost you to get your car where you want it to be

Alright see what u guys are saying but, whats the bets thing to go with tire wise do u want a wider tire? Someone told me that u keep the PSI low on ur tires cause when u start drifting there gonna heat up real fast thus causing them to expand?IDK i just thought it would be pretty kick @ss to drift with a vert i mean i will be going to fabrication school soon so maybe i can do a couple things to u know stiffing up my ride. I'M working on her she will be done in may ill take some pictures for u guys, I had already posted some before pictures in a previous form....Thank u guys for ur help

By the time a vert is set up for drifting, it's practically no longer a vert. The D1 guys are running a full cage and hardtop. Kind of defeats the purpose.

My .02:

The idea of a 240 vert being used for drifting is neat...but realistically it's only worth it if you have the money to back it up. You're better off just using a coupe or hatch...it's a much cheaper alternative.

if you have a track and a vert thats manual and a rollbar then you will be ok. But i would get a hatchback for drifting and keep my vert for a show car.

Take it from me and the other E-town boyz with the verts:

1. Drifting with a vert - yeah, its doable but it takes money. Like everyone said and as I said before...if I could do it over again, I would have chosen a different platform.

2. That said, I still like my vert and the fact that it's different at the track always attracts attention which is cool.

3. Ditto on the budget/estimate thing. Def double whatevers floating in your head. That's the truth with all projects.

4. Ebay s*** gets you buy - and admittedly, you gotta be in this modding scene long enought to know whats Ebay-Ok vs Ebay-youWastedYourMoney.

For example:

Cheap Intake pipe + filter: Ebay Ok. Why? Since anything with a pipe + filter element is probably sucking in more air than your stock box.

Ebay HID: You got robbed. Like me.

Ebay Seats: You got robbed and they look gay.

Ebay tail lights, blinkers, headlights...etc: do it. Cheaper than the store -and where all are you gonna get all those goodies in one place?

5. Used Coilovers: Okay, so I retract my statement a bit. Def buy used for a beater. Def buy used for your car - but be damn cautious and only by after you tested those damn things (pick it up - put two hands on the pillow and push down on a concrete floor - does it compress well???). I wouldn't buy used coilovers from a nobody.

6. Back to drifting: Dude. Don't do it. Go get a coupe and pimp your vert out dude. I envy these guys in this forum with the sick wheels + kits.

7. Drifting in general: Outside of your vert issue - it's not like it's that cheap to drift. Expect to buy tires all the time and hit **** all the time. I mean, if you don't hit a curb or wall or fence or garbage can when you first start, then you're not trying hard enough. Word.

Ya i have the intake i gotta a turbo i'm throwing in, will have the Horse power i see what u guys are saying but, The reality of the truth u could have a hatch back u could have all the horse power all the money put into ur car, But If im a better driver than u whats the point of putting all that money into ur car, But having some parts in ur car does make u a better driver making it easier for you so i see what u guys are saying, i mean i think its gonna be KICK @ss drifting in a vert. Ya, i will have a custom roll bar in. DO u guys got any videos of verts drifting??? It would probably help me out cause i'm a whole noob to this 240sx vert thing a came From a BMW back round lol. But i was still kinda of a fan of Nissan more than i was BMW! Thank u guys for ur time i really appreciate all the help u guys have given me.

I drift my vert. It took some learning, but now i can pull off some pretty high speed stuff. The chassis is stiff, but there is a lot of weight. Right now I'm still finishing my bushings and welding control arms, when that's done I'll install my stance gr+ pros. The reaction I get from my friends is, " I wanna ride in the vert!" My friends are pretty skilled at drifting and they said I'm doing real well and mad props goes to me for being that good in such a handicapped car.
