I am not much into the racing terminology.. What exactly is drifting and why are 240's supposedly so good at it?

Thanks,Newbie

Watch these http://force.chat-jp.com/movie/index2.h ... b....fting

In most racing a car goes around a corner following the apex and they never lose traction. In drifting the driver creates an unbalanced force in the car so that the back of the car swings out.

Or simply as I like to put it "The art of the controlled skid" The lines of drifting boundaries are fuzzy, from rally racing to pure art in which judges control a skid around a series of turns and a score is handed out.

Rwd, They are light, they have good weight distrubution so it is easier to control the car, they have a good suspension basis in which its antisquat allows it to accelerate out of a turn with ease. A lot of dif reasons

Ya your welcome, some drifting guru could probaly give you a better definition than I. Crashing is definitely a problem when trying to drift, broken axels, clutches, tires, rims, struts, not to mention body damage or a totaled car.

what is drifting?

spending more money on tie rods, control arms, tc rods, tires, wheels, and bushings than you do on motor work.

what is drifting?

breaking stuffs and being able to replace axles, brakes, hubs, and suspension parts , basically any part that keeps the car rolling not powertrain wies in under an hour so you make the next session.

what is drifting?

looking at each rainy day as another savior, because your tires wont wear out as quickly, nor will they make any noise to arouse 'the man'.

what is drifting?

something i do every day ;-)

deliberately sliding the rear wide instead of gripping a corner while controlling the front of the car.

not really fish-tailing as that is more of a back and forth wag of your rear... a drift is wide and full of finesse' and grace... deliberate.

Today was an awsome day for drifting. Nice and rainy, enough for me to pull a sick tank slapper.

Dont forget this one:

What is Drifting?

wearing out your brand new expensive tires in less than 1 month.

...and thanks to drifting my car now sports a jdm tc rod, tie rod, and control arm up front on one side.Just have to bust up the other side to find a excuse to get that other tc rod with the crazy airflow thing on it...or steal it from my friend's car who got the suspension from the other side of the clip a couple weeks ago

Heh, yeah I did deserve it. My supply of extra rims is actually running out, I think I only have one set that's straight in reserve :)

No LSD for me, too poor and too jobless...once I regain some steady income, that's the first thing going on my car...I really should know better than to go drifting when I'm broke

Do you take off the traction control? once that is off you can drive the cars as much as you want. If not those systems will bog you down big time.

Sometimes I slide around corners in a "somewhat" controled fasion when it rains.. Does that count as drifting????:thinker
