Have you guys seen teh drifting clips on real tv? Drifting is refered to as a major problem in japan.. they talk about how very dangerous it is, how that it is done by pulling the e-brake.. and how even tho there are tracks where its legal, people 'race' on the streets because of the prize money..

wtf?

I took it more as really dangerious with the spectators standing right on the street. There were some E-brake drifts shown also. They also stated that it happens every weekend and i'm not sure how true that is.

OMFG What are they thinking?! Potentially out-of-control cars sliding all over city streets being dangerous? Where could they come up with such that assumption?! :thinker

Drifting or racing on public roads is wreckless. I don't care if you're Michael Andretti. I got no respect for people who drift or race on roads my family could be driving on. It's stupid to put other people's safety at risk. Most people don't see that until they **** up someone.

Take it to the track like a man.

most people do it in the mountains, industrial complexes, or out in BFE, away from residential areas, places where there isn't another car at 1am, where the worst that can happen is breaking a control arm. (with the exeption of going off a cliff for the touge)

Basically, what do you do? you can't go to the track, you get kicked out by the grip drivers. not to mention 100-200 dollars to run. and only once a month (if that) for most of the US. Unless you live in Cali or the NE, there's no events to go to. You can be put in jail for the rest of your life for many crimes, or even put to death, but that doesn't stop crime, nor does getting your car impounded and serving time stop street races. people have to pay every time they go to the track, often at least an hour away, when it's a lot easier to go down the street, or 10min. away. so what do you do?

Be as smart as you can, without endangering anyone.

But by all means...

drift on. :ylsuper

drifting is dangerous, most people ignore the fact things are dangerous just because thats one of their hobby's, pastimes, fetishes and whatnot, but that dosent mean to say walking down the street is dangerous or eating a pretzel you have the possibility of choking on it like or stupid *** president. theres danger in everything. but danger is fun as long as youre not stupid. because i just looooooove drifting in elementary school parking lots while the kids are getting out of school its so fun to see their faces

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa - u mean how most SRs we get are from would-be wrecked drift cars in japan. and people pay $3000+ for an abused, wrecked engine.

of course drifting is dangerous. Driving is dangerous.

but they made it seem like this is done with wreckless abandon. Sorry to tell you that in japan people have a sense of honor, they go to abandoned areas esp industrial parks. They only drift intersections when the light is GREEN.

spectators choose to stand where they stand, course they COULD get hurt, and i am sure taht occasionaly they do. But if all of these spectators and bystanders were getting injured, would the cops be arresting people? instead of just breaking them up?

Seriously. Japan is not the US. There is a different mentality.

While watching that episode i hit the info button, and to my suprise that particular episode first aired in 1997, I know drifting started before that but i didn't expect to see it on Real TV that soon.
