whats the different between drifting/drag/auto-cross suspentions. Someone told me that its all in the stiffness. I know that drifting and auto cross would be the closest in stiffness but which is stiffer.

Drifting by far would be much more stiff, in AutoX you gotta have the suspension somewhat softer than in drifting just so you dont start drifting on the track. Im not sure the kind of suspension set-up you want for drag racing.... im more into Drifting/Ralling/AutoX. In short, Drifting is a much more specific set-up than an autoX and drag.

That's not really true. For drag racing you want the back end to squat a lot so you can launch properly. Autocross suspensions range from almost stock to incredibly hardcore, and lots of development goes into it. For drift I think ppl just go for as stiff/low as possible, which is probably why they spend all their time sliding around...especially with the retarded stretched tires. Suspension setup is really complicated-stiffness is one of dozens of variables such as rebound damping, compression damping, spring vs sway bar roll stiffness, toe, camber, caster, bushing compliance, etc. Tons of things are going on w/ a suspension.

But in the end: the purpose of suspension is to compensate for road irregularities, hold the body up, and keep the tires perpendicular to the road.

Easy to accomplish on a smooth race track, hard on the street.

Where 1" of road clearance is enough vs sometimes 6".

Independent rear suspensions are difficult to set up for drag racing vs solid rear axles.
