when was the first time you tried drifting? when/where was it? did you break anything or crash? how long have you been doing it? what mod/technique made the biggest improvement? Are you any good, or do you suck? I think that covers everything...

Well, i just started to get all Dori Dori. I've tried a couple of times in the rain and the last time i spun a 360, hopped the curb and stalled the car. It scared the **** out of me, but now i want to try it even more :D

My first time was in Utah, behind ShopKo, a store. it was raining. i was in a ****ty toyota compact truck (from da 80s). it wasnt exactly a drift, but i took a corner at about 30 mph and steered quick, the rear tires started squealing (not exactly a drift but close enough). after the corner i was about to hit a wall but i steered out. it was hella fun!

My first attempt was behind a business complex in the rain, the pavement there has no grip so i spun out.... since then i used to always go there on rainy days, i've gotten a bit better now but still not good enough to brag about it. My worst accident was going too fast trying to bring the tail out, my car basically went straight (no grip whatsoever) onto the curb with both wheels, hit the fence with the rear bumper, but NO DAMAGE!!!! I was doing 25-30mph. My stupidest accident was trying to do a U-turn powerslide from a 2 lane road into a 1 lane road, steering wheel slipped while correcting the front wheels, i hit the curb on the left side with the rear wheel, and that threw the car towards the other side of the road, hitting a tree head on @30-35mph. That left me with a bent rear suspension, and a totaled car. That was my older 240, I've had no mishaps on my current car, I'm a bit wiser and more careful i guess. The mod i found most helpful was installing a rear strut bar on a pretty much stock car (Sportlines and front strut bar), but then again my tires were so worn out at the time that i could floor it at 40mph and "burnout" in 5th gear in the rain.:D:D:D

I've been doing wet-parkinglot fun since i started driving my FWD stanza.. Also learned how to drive that car using left foot braking and e-braking for tight turns..

as for REAL drifting.. (S13) I got sideways on my testdrive and i've been hooked since.. tho my car hasnt been running consistantly enough for me to really practice.

My first time was going left through a T-intersection. I over-corrected on the exit, my car did a 180 and i hit the car opposite the intersection going sideways pointed in the opposite direction that i had intended to go. Tore up my suspension big time, since i was probably doing 30-35. New control arms, new spindles, new struts, sway bars, wheels, etc. After two and a half months i finally have the car fixed and back on the road (plus 2 whiteline sway bars & GR2 shocks). I need to find a place where i can start practicing without running into curbs.

The first time I tried, actually intending to drift, was a few months ago. I usually just try anywhere I can if the road is clear, and the autocross. Worst accident was slapping my passenger side quarter panel into a fence post. Gave me some annoying body damage. Great fun though. I definatly would like an lsd for better control though. :batman

89240sx, that looks like a fun road. is it uphill or mostly flat? the road i practice is STEEP uphill/downhill.

my first time was at a stop sign in the rain....my friend was driving he has a 90 cougar v6 with lsd and he kinda ran the stopsign and the pavement was really slick and he gave it some throttle as he turned to the left and spun around dooing a 180 and landed in the other lane going the other way...lol "when the lating you drifted a ford latly" Drifting mag.

Ok I am in the wrong forum since I dont own a 240 (someday I will though). But my first drift was in a 86 camaro in the rain. It just went completely sideways in the rain on a corner. I wasnt even going that fast either. Just had really bald tires. Anyways I managed to take that turn perfectly while drifting. no 180's, 360's or anything like that. Since then I have been very interested in drifting. I will be starting my own club this saturday. I might have a guy with a 240 drifting. If you live in orlando and are interested e-mail me at [email protected] . Drift on!

My first time was when I didn't intend on doing it. It was morning and I was driving my 1989 Toyota Cressida (FR, auto) and was going do a hill and was going to go up the hill where I live on. It was an intersection with a stoplight. Well, it was raining and I had pretty much bald rear tires. I was going down around 30mph and the light turned yellow and I wasn't that far from the light, so I went turned, braked a little, and got sideways. I felt a little panicked but controlled the car up through the cornor and up my hill. I was kind of speechless on the way to my house. oh by the way it was a 90 degree turn.

wait a second people....are you guys talking about those rainy day 'fishtails'? what happens when you come out of a turn and your rear end sways to the left or right...? that's not really a drift...in a drift, you go sideways right before the turn..

damn, you guys went out and started learning on the street, huh? I have been hitting up the parking lots the last couple of weeks, and I've been ok so far. need bushings, and lsd, and throttle control, but I'm getting there.

the first drift session for me was in a huge parking lot that scca uses for autox. I set up some cones with a buddy, autox style, but it gradually turned into a drift session. I tried clutch kicking, didn't work to well until I realized that you must stay on the gas. when I corrected this, I started the spin out session. I got it right a couple of times though, right in front of a cop. I went back over to my buddies, and he got out and explained that the parking lot was private and they wouldn't want anyone getting hurt on it, so not to do that here anymore. no ticket, just no donuts, as he called it. he was cool, so we left. but my hands were shaking for about 10min. after we left from the drifting experience.
