never done it before, but wanna learn to drift. Now ive read the past threads on advice to start, so now i have a little clue on where im going. Im just wondering, would you get the same effect from running through a huge dirt lot? I figure you could just get the wierd controll feeling down at a slower speedAnd besides, donuts in the dirt is fun anyways

Practice on pavement... 1/2 the work in drifting is keeping the rear end out, which is very easy on dirt. You can do it on dirt of wet pavement to furthur your skid or slidding control but the car will act totally different on pavement and you will have to be faster and more direct with the inputs.

Wait for a rainy day and go to a large empty paved lot. Won't take as much speed to break your rear loose when it's wet.

...doesn't mean that dirt lots aren't fun to slide around in, if nothing else they can help you feel more comfortable looking out your side windows to see where you're going.

Is it just dirt, or dirt and gravel? If it has gravel, you might get flying gravel and knicks in your paint behind the tires.

Dirt will give you the same effect except your ride will be filthy when your done. Gravel will chew the crap out of your undercarriage. I'd go with a wet empty parking lot. Also remember, parking lot donuts and burnouts will shorten the life of your tires and clutch....
