Drift Knob

I searched to find installation instructions for an ebrake drift knob on an s14 but couldn't find anything.

From what I understand, I have to take off the ebrake cover. I then have to bend the metal tabs back and let the spring pop out. I am lost from there.

Unfortunately, I cannot get the rubber cover to come off. I have pulled on it with pliers and am close to tearing the rubber but it will not come off.

Could someone with experience please let me know how to take the cover off and then how to finish the drift knob install? Thanks.
