Hey guys,

I need some advice, and I figure the frequenters of NICOs drift forum will probably be the most helpful (being that it IS NICO) and the most understanding (being that it IS a drift forum). You see, my S13 is old, old as hell (23x,xxx miles) and is also my daily driver. Lately, the drift itch has been worse than ever, beig that the days are longer/hotter and damn, I want to go out and drive. LOL. Still, as I have eluded to, I have a long list of other obligations that depend on the 240sx. So my question: how many of you have seen the need to go out and get a beater car? I bought the 240 when my old truck had to go in for quadruple bypass, and the truck has since become my little sister's. So all I have is the 240sx. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty happy about that, but the prospect of the eventual wrecking of my DD just doesn't sound that much fun. I'm not talking about just the chassis, either. I'll remind everyone that the original KA24DE is still sitting in the engine bay, never rebuilt, never opened... and when it dies, I'd rather swap in a CA or RB than spend the same money to have it rebuilt. My suspension is also dying, and I'd rather just throw in a really aggressive drift setup than compromise for street driving. Same goes for brakes. Basically, am I off my rocker for wanted to turn this thing into a track/weekend car, considering the cost of buying and maintaining a beater? I don't know where I'm going with this, but know that most of you have opinions I value, so help me out. Thanks everyone.

if you are serious about any form of motorsports a daily driver/tow vehicle is a necessity. you will never drive at 100% ability worrying about how you are going to get to work the next day, or get the car home after an event. ive had a beater for over a year and am selling it to get a tow vehicle at the end of summer. more events, farther away, so i can get better and never worry about the car making it back.

hit the nail on the head.. i went out and bought a DD when i started my sr swap...going on 2 years now.... if you make your car something that you are trying to get serious about then you don't want to depend on it for DD duties.. accidetns happens ..motors break... trees jump out into the road... get something cheap (not to cheap don't want to sink money into a DD that breaks down everyother month) ..then you don't have to worry about getting a mod done in a day or taking a motor out and replacing it in a weekend ...

Yeah, that's what I figured. A nice, reliable daily driver would make tracking and modding the S13 a lot easier and more fun. I guess one of my next investments will have to be that - another car!

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I take my car out to the track and beat the crap out of it..

and still drive it daily... been about 2 years now and it's running strong...

you can do it but it is true that if you get into some kind of trouble, you will need another car to drive you from work and home and getting your groceries and stuff...

I had to buy another car, it took alot of the pressure off. You don't have to make last minute repairs and worry about missing work. Also is your daily get in an accident you have another car. I'm currently driving my grandmas car beacause my new daily isn't driving yet and my fun car isn't rolling yet.

I used to drift my daily car. 2-way, coilovers, solid bushings everywhere, its still streetable. I still do drift my DD on occasion but recently I started to drive a shop car at the track, but if the shop car isnt there or I just wanna beat on mine for fun, i still go all out on it.

Reason I got 3 240's.1 project car one dialy driver and one vert because it's hotness. My daily driver breaks I jump in the vert to get parts and fix it.Vert is in rough shape but that will soon change hiding in the garage right now to keep it from getting worse.
