Hello to all felow Z owners ! My Z just turned 100,000 miles and last summer I had a performance shop replace a bunch of noisey exhaust lifters that were outta specs. The car sounds and runs great. The problem started shortley after when the ses light came on
The code comes up as p0011 "A " camshaft position - timing over -advanced or system performance bank 1 . My mechanic says he worked on the advance gear which I guess there really isint much to this part. He showed me the timing marks and everything looked alligned to me, but what do I know ! I went back to Mobil one as he had put royal purple in it thinking this may have been the problem. He also thought oil pressure is a little low. He suggested maybe I try a lil heavier oil . Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated - thanks

Sorry that a problem with your car brought you to NICO, but we're glad you're here! :)

P0011 A is specifically the intake cam, does your car start and idle ok? Crusing speed ok? Any noticeable lack of power? It could be that the camshaft position is ok and it's the sensor that's having a problem. That's a big guess, but if the timing was right this might throw a code because even though there's nothing wrong to the ECU it looks like there is something wrong.

Did he actually check the oil pressure with an external gauge or just look at the gauge on in the triple pod? Minimum oil PSI at idle is 13 or 14 PSI, and at 2000 rpm with no load on the engine it's 43 PSI. If he thinks that might be the problem he should go the whole nine in checking it out instead of relying on the dash gauge. Oil pressure sensors go out, so you shouldn't base your diagnosis on this alone, and neither should your mechanic - tell him to use an external gauge. If you do need to replace the sensor they're about $80 bucks, make sure you don't crossthread it when you replace it or you'll be buying a new upper oil pan...and that's well over $80. ;)

If you're looking at stepping up to a little heavier weight oil you might want to check out Rotella 5w40, I've heard plenty of good things about it and have considered it myself as my Z is getting up there in miles, nearly 130K.

Welcome to NICO! :badger
