I have the dreaded code 34 which is putting my Z in safety boost (6 psi) now what im wondering is if I should just replace the bad knock sensor or bypass the sensor some how? if you guys have bypassed it how did you do it and is it ok for the vg30?

I think you double posted this by accident? But I'm sure the mods will delete the other one.

1. Don't bypass the knock sensor.

2. Its easy to relocate it without too much work at all.

The stock sensor is located under the lower intake, which is more or less impossible to get to unless you take apart most of the top of the engine. Instead, you can just buy a new sensor, get the upgraded subharness from Z1motorsports, buy a somewhat long bolt from Home Depot or Lowes, and bolt the new one on to the back of the upper intake.

This article explains it in far more detail, and the one I'm telling you about is the last location he mentions:

Go buy this stuff:

OEM Nissan knock sensor (~$40)

Upgraded Z1 knock sensor harness (~$20)

(1) M8-1.25 x 100mm bolt and a few nuts/washers to act as spacers to get the right setup. If you can get like an 80 or 90mm bolt it would be easier but most stores just go from like 60mm length right to 100mm.

THEN, unplug the old knock sensor harness from the main harness and just leave it there. Bolt up the new setup like this, it takes the place of the last bolt on the upper plenum closest to the drivers side:

Good to go!

Ok thanks i thought the knock sensor was on the upper plenum under that same bolt...Is it possible to remove the knock sensor without removing the upper plenum/and tons of parts..last time i changed the gaskets for my plenum it was a nightmare for me

If it's already there then someone must have already done the relocation, which would make things alot easier. With Code 34 though, it isn't always the sensor itself it can just be the little subharness. Both are fairly cheap though.

You can replace the knock sensor on the top of the block by removing the transmission as well. Its a tight space and difficult to work in. With the transmission off you can reach into the galley. A little scope camera helps, as well as being on a lift.
