Is it absolutely necessary to open both of the block drains prior to a plenum removal/hose job. I've drained the radiator but only recovered about 3/4 gallon. The drivers side block drain is almost impossible to access on HICAS equipped Q's (solenoid valves in way). Would draining the passenger side pull any additional coolant from the drivers side. Any idea how much coolant will remain in the hoses under the plenum if the left side can't be drained? Joe at Scottsdale thought their techs just do the radiator drain. Steve

No need IMO.

Those block drains are better left closed, as they can crack or malfunction (I had a nightmare with one).

Even if you are changing the head outlet hoses you don't NEED to. Expect a little mess when you do pull the outlet hoses. Then you'll need some way to suck / sop up a little out of the heads so the RTV selant can be dry and cure properly.

When you do your annual coolant exchange [or every 30k for those that are trusting].

Dennis,How does your place get to the left side drain on a HICAS model? My coolant is still fresh but a flush is due in another7500 miles and there must be a trick or tool to get in there.

pulling a water pump without draining the block is a very messy affair, but the drain plugs make a mess anyway when pulled so...
