Unfortunately Florida has too many poor drivers. The large elderly population have poor eyesight and reflexes and the young drivers have no common sense.

Only around 45,000 per year are killed in MV incidents compared to 30,000 from fire arms [60% self inflicted] out of 2.5 million annual deaths. All injuries are 170,000 not even 10% of total.

According to several research studies in the last decade, a total of 225,000 Americans per year have died as a result of their medical treatments:Thus, America's healthcare-system-induced deaths are the third leading cause of the death in the U.S., after heart disease and cancer. • 12,000 deaths per year due to unnecessary surgery• 7,000 deaths per year due to medication errors in hospitals• 20,000 deaths per year due to other errors in hospitals• 80,000 deaths per year due to infections in hospitals• 106,000 deaths per year due to negative effects of drugs

zozo, remember the problem you had with the robot? Did you ever see I Robot? Just wait buddy...

In other news, vehicular homicide is no doubt a felony, and that is a pretty stiff price for the surviving driver to pay for a minute or two of stupidity. But that's the law, and it applies to all of us equally. Don't allow yourself to be in the same situation.

Regardless of the foolish circumstances, I regret that lives were lost in this situation. I would rather they had sustained serious injuries, but survived to learn an important lesson, and maybe even encourage others not to take the same risks. IMHO, keeping racing (of any kind) on the track is akin to keeping target practice on the gun/rifle range.

This is so ture. The old people is just becasue they are old. They cause a lot of accidents with normal drivers because they drive slow. It is the young drivers that are like freaks and have no respect for the road!

Im not that old but I see it in the young of drivers. They are so stupid. I was one of the lucky ones that grew up with property and i started driving at a very young age. I was 12 and would take the truck loaded with hay and back it into the barn and unload it.

I also learned how to drive with trailers at about age 14. We had a boat and at age 16 i would take it to the beach or to the local lake and have some fun. I knew how to drive with trailers and that really gives you respect for the road.

My father had a roofing and construction company and we had 3 large dump trailers with hydrolics and a 350 dully that in the summers i would drive for him an make the trips to the dumps.

I really am lucky because of my experience with so many differnent types of cars, trucks, vans, SUV's, trailers, and Manuals that i have avoided about 5 accidents. Had i not had the knoledge of what to do in bad situations i would have been in many bad accdents.

I wish the rest of the drivers had the experiences on how to learn the proper way to drive or the mileage under my belt (600k+) that i do. They would have more of a respect for the road! This is why we need to keep it safe!

Gee... and to think that the Iraq war was the top of the agenda as the #1 issue that affects Americans. (3990/U.S. for 5yrs). I wonder if that study put $$ numbers the costs of all these deaths (excluding Iraq). Sure, it affects me and my family directly (going for Round 3 very shortly), but the numbers above kinda put things into perspective. Hell, those numbers are close to the total lost during Vietnam.

It's not fair to say oh it's the young drivers fault for trying to get around people in traffic. Sure they take chances they shouldn't, but there also shouldn't be people driving in the fast lane doing 5- 10 under right beside someone doing the same in the slow lane. If there was an open lane for people to pass then there wouldn't be the weaving that some people do to try and get through traffic.

I agree though that down here in South Florida you get a bunch of kids who either get their "fast" civic or something like that and want to be all fast and the furious all over the place. When I had my Camaro at least once every few days I'd get some ricer cool kid rev at me every day on my way home from school.

This case doesn't speak for all young drivers, I'm 21 and have been driving since 14 and only have a few speeding tickets.(who does 60 on the highway anyways? ) This just shows the ignorance of some drivers.

That young driver was racing where he shouldn't of been. There is plenty of tracks to race on. This kid made a bad driving decision and hurt others in the process. It doesn't matter if the other people on the road were driving too slow. This guy was unable to keep his car under control because he was driving way too fast for his environment.

No I agree he was being very stupid and ruined a lot of lives because he decided to try and show off. I was just saying that in response to the "young drivers don't have respect for the road."

Yeah, its not good to generalize. There are plenty of great young drivers that are responsible enough to think first.
