Took my Z to the track just to hang out tonight and ended up getting pushed into racing it. It was the first time ever racing my car besides the light to light races. I was very nervous , but after a few passes it wasn't that bad. I'm not to sure what a good time is. Like I said I've never raced, but my best time ended up being a 14.2 :gotme

Just thought I'd share my experience.

Considering that it's pretty near what most car mags tested the early 350Z's at (14.1) and it was your first time out I'd say you did great!

If you want to drop your time I'd say...

1) A new LSD to get the power down a little better, because even if you have a factory VLSD it's getting close to mandatory retirement and even when it was new it wasn't fantastic

2) Some nice sticky tires

3) Practice!

Where were you racing?

One free way to lower you e.t. is to make sure you have no extra weight in the car, i.e. junk in your trunk. :) Back when I used to race my boyfriend's '69 Camaro, he got so mad because I could turn better times just because I was about 50 pounds lighter than him. It is amazing what a few pounds can do.

Well I just put brand new tire on last week, but yeah I need lots of practice. But the track I raced at was the Muncie Drag Strip in Indiana. Small little place. And yes an LSD is differently on the list of things to buy.

I never really thought about the spare tire and the jack in the back. Thats a good point. But I really didn't want to race anyway. But when they paid for my ticket to race I figured I'd do it, but my adrenaline was going thinking about all the bad things that could happen that I really never thought about anything else.

One thing I forgot to mention is even though I could say no to racing, the reason I did do it is because there are another 350z at the strip. There is maybe 2 other Zs in Muncie and are owned by some older guys. So when I saw this other guy there I knew I had to see what I could run. He was running some thrown together twin turbo and didn't take the time to go get it tuned. So with with my time of 14.2 and he's time of 14.0 ended up being a good night. Until he came back with a busted transmission.
