There are two kinds of people in this world, those that like driving straight and those that like going sideways! Just checking to see which are you? Drag or Drifterdo you prefer drag racing, drifting or both

i was also wondering, would an SR be as fast as a KA in terms of staight line speed (lets say, from a stoplight) providing they both had the same mods.

depends on the driver, but a kat "should" get the jump cuz of hella low end torque.by the way i have 1990 fastback witha sr20det and a1990 coupe with a ka in it.and i rather drag.

thats kool bigk, you got the best of both. im glad you rather drag too, because thats what im into(track, street race etc.). i have just noticed a good bit of 240 owners like to drift. i like the concept but until i get alot of money then i rather stick to straight than sideways, which in my opinion increases my risk of crashing into something. btw, are you planning on making your coupe a ka-t

it has a blown motor in it right now and i already have a ka24e to put in it. right now im going just put the ka in it and drive it daily intill april when i plan on putting a rb20det or kat it with the dohc ka engine with low boost like 8psi or i might just sell my 1990 with sr20det and go all out on the coupe.rb20 with gtr crank, rods and some custom pistons,to4e turbo, looking for 400rwhp and thats it.i just got it yesterday and im going to sand it down and put it in primer cuz it has some dings in it.im also going to change out all the interier to black also cuz it has brown interier.most likely the sr20det will go bye bye. it was a steal for only $400, its a auto but i can get all the 5-speed parts here at a local salvage yard for cheap.

:D yeah i love the thrill when two cars are gunning down a stretch, and flipping through the gears till the best driver/car combo wins.

oh yeah, bigk, i think 400rwhp is jus right for the street. man you also said that you might send the SR packing, thats like one of the few times that i have heard that. usually everyone like praises that motor. i am glad to see that they both have their strong points. just wondering......what do you think your q/t mile times would be like with that kind of power?

dont get me wrong the sr is hell of a motor its just that i came from a v8"mustang" background and i prefer something with more low end torque then the sr can provide.and the quarter miles times,i think it should be a low 12 sec car.maybe even a high 11 with some good traction with DR's.but im not 100% sure im going to get rid of my sr,its just a option if i go rb. more money for mods.

ohhh, makes sense. my friend jaime is into mustangs cause he has a gt but its kool cause he knows about domestics and i know about imports. the ka should have more low end torque than the sr because of displacement right? so ultimately the ka-t would be the way to go in terms of drag. thanks

oh i forgot bout autoxing, it just never caught my attention. from what i gather it just seems like a bunch of guys(girls) driving around cones in a near bone stock looking car. i must admit, autox people do alot of suspension mods but that aint my style of racing(time trails). what got u into autox ride4lame?

And drag racing is just a bunch of guys/girls pressing the gas pedal and going straight. It's much harder and more challenging than it looks. It involves only a small amount of acceleration so you do not need gobs of power and you can't make up much ground with power. To be competetive, monitoring tire temperature and contact patch characteristics become critical. Unlike most road course events, autocross is easy to get into for competition. The competition is stiff and a lot more hardcore than most people realize. Imagine trying to squeeze out better handling when you might be limited in what mods you are allowed to make.

Personally, I prefer road course track events. Nut I certainly enjoy a good drag race or autocross here and there. I never got into drifting much. Tires are expensive enough as it is.

i think they are going to be near maimi? that may be far from you but it will be worth it i am sure. go to http://www.dgtrials.com and search on the message board.

Also i haven't had a chance to autox yet, but the idea of racing against your own time on a technical course looks like a lot of fun. this summer i will definitely be autox-ing often. A few of my friends do it as well.

I completely agree with C-Kwik. 240's on road race tracks rock. Straightline acceleration is a 240's primary weakness (that and no cupholders), so I'm not sure why so many guys want to use them at drag strips. And drifting is too abusive to the car IMHO. 240's are great road race track/autocross cars.

good point there C-Kwik, autox is a good bit more technical than just your average "start to finish" i guess i should of made the extra option of autox for people that like it. sorry bout that

I say both b/c it's alot of fun to get a car sideways......as well as drag. The 240 gets sideways soooo easy, which really makes it addictive, although, I hope a COP never sees me do it on the street...lol.

I'm building my car to road race. The closest I've been at this point in my life is go-karting. I'd love to take the 240 out to Willow Springs or any of the local tracks, but the 112mph speed cut would kill it. I know that Greddy makes the speed cut eliminator, but I'm eventually going to get a JWT retune after I get all the parts for the turbo upgrade assembled. I don't wanna spend $600 now, then more again later because that seems kind stupid.

Unless you've modified it a bit, you wont get much higher than 110 on Willow anyhow, not enough track :D

I used to run my bone stock 240 all the time at track events, even tracks with long straights like the Glen or VIR. Total fun. 240's are what they call "momemtum" cars. Their drawback is accelerating out of turns, especially going upphill. Gotta keep 'em in the power band which is always fun. With such a fine suspension, I could always chase down much more exotic machinery, except on the long straights. It's also easy to disconnect factory the 118 mph speed limiter. But If you do that, then you should consider upgrading the brakes.
