downshift rev matching??

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Rev-matching refers to matching the engine speed to the transmission input speed before engaging a lower gear. It reduces the shock of shifting to a lower gear on the drive train and helps maintain the balance of the car during braking and cornering. Rev matching is a feature of manual mode downshifts; you don't have to do anything different the computer handles it for you.

thanks i get it in principle, but can you explain how i would use it to set up a turn, i downshift to second gear, then what?? the gear stays in 2nd after the turn i upshift to 3rd gear, that all there is right. in "manual mode"it will not upshift on its own, correct?thanks, nickP.S. i am probably making this more coplicated then it is.

i will not upshift on its own but will down shift automatically if you have engine rpm too low.

Yeah, you don't need to do anything else. When you downshift to 2nd you'll hear the engine automatically rev higher briefly before it shifts.
