So i have an exhaust leak and ive isolated it to around where the back end of the turbo meets the downpipe.

so i inspected it and stuff and it seems that i only have 1 bolt out of the 5 that are supposto be there.

no i thought i could just take it out, get a ride to home depot and get 4 others like it, but i cant seem to figure out how long it has to be, and which direction its supposto go into.. and where the threads are supposto thread, i thought about just uscrewing whats left of the downpipe/turbo connection and unscrewing the headers from the engine. but im worried that i'd need like goooey stuff for the header/engine connection or when i took the headers off my gasket would crumble, so i stayed clear of that. so. my questions are

What is the procedure of taking the exhaust manifold off/on the engine block?

how do the downpipe/turbo bolts work, how do they bolt, the whole 9 yards.

i'd really apprecaite any info bc at the moment my car is running poorly. as far as i know all the parts are stock CA18DET parts.

thanks again !!!!

that is not a stock CA turbo. It looks like a three-bolt inlet from the manifold too.

i guess the studs have been pulled out, what im asking is how it works.

does the turbo side have studs that go through the downpipe and you have to put a nut at the end?

or does a bolt go though the downpipe and thread into the turbo side?er neither?

i know i should get a new turbo, i asked this question to learn about the machine, and see whatsup. i would rather ask around and learn about what i have before i jump out and spend money i dont have on a new turbo and do it myself with no garage.

btw its my birthday!!! woohooo !!! 18... yea

ok. umm my mechanic friend figured it out before anyone answered me so. just in case somone searches for the same thing ill answer it.

on the downpipe side of the turbo there are studs sticking out.. the studs thread into the turbo and have a thread on the opposite side. i need to replace 4/5 of them. so i have to buy threaded studs that are the right size. thread them into the turbo then put the downpipe though the other end and then bolt it off.

kinda confusing. but good luck. thanks again nico.

the studs are the same as on the 02 impreza wrx, in case the nissan dealer doesnt have them. also, auto zone had a couple of them, but not enough to complete our project. you might have better luck at yours, but our auto zone seems to kinda blow.
