Sounds like the timing chain blues finally got my beloved 91q. I went to start it one morning a while back, it ran for 10secs and died.I did not try to restart the engine because I was aware of the guide problem, I actually had ordrerd all the parts a couple of weeks prior. Anyway I dismantled the front engine cover and removed the valve covers. Sure enough there was not much left of original guides but the chains looked good and all the timing marks seemed to line up "Whew". I installed the new guides, tensioners etc, then did a compression test, but little or no commpression showed on the cylinders, leading me to belive I have valve damage. Any advise on this? If the engine is damaged i would like to swap out for a newer one. The car is still in great shape

Most stress on the chain guides is at start-up.

Wonder if some of the RB importers up there have a line on the rarer early engines?

Havent found one yet, is the 94 to 96 engine compatible? A loss of a few horses is a non issue.

So, in order to damage the valves, it would have had to jump timing - and then it mysteriously jumped back to the correct timing before you inspected it?

What are the odds of that happening? (I'm guessing pretty slim...)
