Doesn't even need to be expensive cars. Speedbumps were my Q45's worst enemy, and it was beat.

One eventually put a hole in the oil pan. That was fun to fix.

Haha it's always fun to get to Cars & Coffee early and see all the cars try to make it over the speedbumps.

I'm living in Madison County now, where there's no emissions testing. Makes me miss that car all the more.

Speed bumps slow everything down, including Ambulances. The City of Modesto CA did a study that concluded they slow emergency vehicles and in a situation where seconds count, could basically cost someone their life.

Did they really need a study to figure that out? The sole purpose of a speed bump is to slow cars down...perhaps it might be more clear if they called it a slowbump...

Its obviously a trade-off. Toll booths delay emergency vehicles too, but those extra few seconds are not going to override the primary mission behind the toll booth or speed bump for being there.

Toll booths I get, but speed bumps aren't as effective as people would have you to believe they are. Wherever there are speed bumps, I've noticed that they don't really stop people from speeding in between them. Because they can either see where the next one is, or they know exactly where the bumps are.

The only time people don't usually speed in between them is if they are maybe 50 ft. or less apart. And it's not likely to see pedestrians crossing directly at the sites of the bumps, so I can't say for sure they are providing any significant amount of safety for pedestrians.

Also, most people's suspensions are either in good enough condition or they just don't care about the bumps, and so they slow down just enough not to go completely airborne over the bumps. So while the bumps do slow traffic in general, it usually only for as quick as it takes to pass over it. Which can sometimes be really quick.
