nissan does not have the 85 cent dowel pins i need for the ka engine block. its been suggested i reattach the transsmission without them. what function do they perform? is it only for alignment or does it provide structural support.

this is incredibly frustrating

You mean no one carries them? Not even any of our sponsors? I would think the dowel pins tool the alignment of the transmission. Down to within .005" or less tolerance probably. They can take shear loads, but probably not necessary with all the bolts.

prob unnecessary is my guess too. however, i would not rush to go without them if i could afford the wait. i am in the same boat. $30 for rod bearings? but i have to order them by grade. shoot, i want to put it back together right now. see what i mean?

lol chris, looks like you and I are in the same boat. Got my crank and con-rod bearings yesterday and piecing this motor's not too fun when you're dead tired all the time ha ha ha. Wait...$30 bucks? for all of em?!?! That's damn cheap. I paid 40 after hookup prices damn

i am such a thread jacker! $30 is my price at the dealership. i also got rings for $67, head gasket(stock det) for $20(may have been discontinued), b13 sr20 engine gasket set for $150, head bolts for $2.50 ea, rod bolts for $2.00 each, and rod nuts for $.30 each. i am back to plan a which is freshen up my motor(not full rebuild as the block is staying in the car) to just get her running strong again. if the mains are ok i will just leave them in.

heh, thats funny. you can pry them out with dikes(diagonal cutters). you just grip them with the cutter part and pry against the case.
