sup guys. as alot of ppl on here i dont have lots of money or what but after tution and books im looking at 1100 1200 something like that anyways..... Im just wondering if anyone has an sr20det for sale somewhere in the park of that price. I know most ppl would say save up a lil more and get it from a shop or what not. Shoot even from some on here but its hard for me to save cash with bills, rent, car payment and what not and im not trying to make this sound like a sob story or anything lol but if anyone is selling one under 2000 let me know. School starts here the 24th so thats when im planning on getting that money but like i said im not expecting to pay 1100 1200 for that motor. Oh yeah did search the classifieds and no one had one. will keep looking though for the updates. Thanks again. Oh yeah if some one does i need it shipped to 88001. Or if in Socal, Ariz or East Texas ill drive. Not really willing to go past San Antonio. thanks guys.

Well the only place you could get an SR for that much, would be either in japan from a junkyard($500+), or some shop that sells them locally. And locally would definitly be your best bet. I would definitly do a compression check @ the very least. If you can, a leak down test. Good luck.

if you buy a blown sr for say $1200 you are obviously going to have to rebuild it...after a rebuild you will probably have spent more money than you would have if you were to just buy one that already runs from a known company..

...i would say dont buy a blown one unless it is considerably cheap (cheaper to rebuild than buy a running one)..if you cant find that then dont buy one until you have about 2500 this way you can get a good running one (unless you can find a good one for however much money you have now)

thats a good point, but the only reason why i say i dont care is because i just want to get the motor so i can have because i dont usually have 1000 or so on me many times so i wouldnt even be putting it in my car till maybe income tax. Till Then I can buy parts by parts. But the thanks for the advicei i did think about that though. Your way is probably still the easiest and "Smartest" way but its hard for me to come up with this type of money so im just trying to get what i can.

SR swap if you want to do it right isn't going to be cheap..

If you want a half arse job then it might be cheap. This would be just taking your engine out and dropping the SR you have right in the engine bay then start it up.

To me, this is not an acceptable form of swap because it shows that you do not have a future goal or a plan for your build.

If you want to do it right, it would include all the bolt on modifications to support the SR and some preventive maintenace as well.

So in order to figure out what needs to be installed in the swap, you really need to set your self a power goal that you want to achieve and go from there along with your budge constraint.

I really dont see the point of just buying a blown SR for 1000 dollars... then... what? just have an engine?

Anyways, if you are going to jump on the bandwagon make sure you are in it for good. You will run into problems and you will end up spending far more money than you anticipated. Make sure you have enough slacks to catch you when that happens.

From one college student to another, doing a SR swap on a college budge + trying to manage college time with swap time is not fun.

Hope this helps you go in the right direction with the swap.

thanks for all the advice guys. As far as knowing what im getting into i do and that is the main reason why i wouldnt be doing the swap. A guy by the name of Steve Kovac of S&M Racing will be doing the swap. Dont know if you guys have heard of him but he is currently in the process of building a 800+ HP KA 240sx. He has lots of knowledge of doing these swaps as his wifes car has a blacktop in her s14 which currently runs 12's. The 19th of this month he is going out to the strip to pull a better time. His drag car is the ka. Ive also thought about doing the ka way seeing how its already in it so i guess you can say like (ILikeMy240sx) said join the bandwagon. May not be the smartest way of wanting one but from the friends who own them i just like them. So yes i guess you can say i like JDM stuff which alot of ppl hate on here but hey we all have our differences and opinions. And i dont think you saw or maybe i didnt post it but while the motor is sitting there i will be buying all the necessary parts that i will be needing for the rebuild. Im always looking on here to see what ppl have so you guys are gonna help out alot. Belive me i dont want this swap do be half *** Anyways thanks for the advice.

Oh and just for future posts from anyone i am looking for a complete set not just a motor. sorry if i made it seem like that anyways thanks for all your help.

you should have that steve guy find you a motor too, i see you spending way too much on something that might as well be scrap metal because of its condition.

ebay motors generally are a big no-no, and this one seems overpriced anyways.

please visit our sponsors and maybe find one near you, give them a call.

good luck.

Hey guys, just wanted to post on here and say never mind for looking for a motor. Im just going to get a rebuild kit from ams, buy greddy kit and turbo the KA. Just got back from a friend who just finished installing the greddy kit on his s14 and it runs absolutley great. at 8 pounds we ran an s13 with an sr20det and just rapped it. He was running 12 pounds and his car is gutted, LSD, bigger injectors and what not. Plus you guys made me think of the money and future problems i might run into and i really dont want to have that big a headache so thanks nico members.
