Okay guys, I'm looking for a nice double DIN.

Here's the challenges -
  • Don't want a silver disco board in the middle of my dash.
  • Really like a CD/MD combo.
  • REALLY like a 3 CD in-dash/MD combo.
  • All the good units from Japan have screwy FM frequencies, even with a convertor, you lose some FM stations.
  • Rather have a 94 Q45 in-dash AM/FM CD/cassette combo.
  • I don't want to spend $1500 to gray market something from Japan.
Any ideas/suggestions?

Check out Crutchfield and see what they got.... we'll help you look as well.

No MDLP support, or anything like that, and it will be ungodly hard to find, but this should do what you want it to do. Oh, and my apologies if it's too tacky . . . it's not that bad, really. :-)

I think this offers MDLP, but can't say I've got any "for sure" info.

That HU is so beautiful it makes me want to cry, seriously. :-) I put a CDA-7998 in a friend's Lexus (similar display to the above), amazing head unit, great sound quality, etc. That has to be money though . . . is it a US market product?

Looks to be about $1200, just a weeeeeeeeeeee bit more than I want to spend. But it is $500 less than the Nak (MD-95z) I like.

I found a site that brings non-US stuff over, they even include the frequency convertor to allow you to pick up most US FM stations.

Far as I know most (later model) Nissans have a double DIN opening, so it should fit ... in the car. Now if it'll fit in the budget is a whole nother story. Aside from the price, there's also shipping and customs, as they're basically ordering it for you from Japan.

But I'm holding out hope, did find this one (Pioneer - Carrozzeria) being ebay'ed out of UK

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it has the double-DIN opening, it has the pocket below the head unit . . . my head unit was only $400 or so, so it's a little higher priced than what I have. We'll have to see whether my budget will allow for it or not.

That Alpine and the Nak are sweet double dins. I just fabricated a brushed stainless steel surround plate for my Altima that has my Alpine SEC-8063 alarm lcd display... ...mounted in the plate directly under my Clarion ProAudio 9675z... ... After I find a digital camera I am gonna put up a pic. It took me a week to fabricate it in my spare time, but it was worth it

Rex,

I have 2 Bose units, one I took out of my 94J that was totaled and one i took out of my 96J I have now. Problem is that the 94 has no display or CD and the 96 has no CD. Let me know if you're willing to take either and have them repaired.

NY - Thanks for the offer, but if I'd really like on that doesn't need for the CD portion to be repaired. THANKS though.

They do, just most of the ones in America are cheap. Do a search on ebay for - CD Dounble DIN, you'll have to wade through some crap, but there's some stuff.

MECPInstaller - Hey thanks for the suggestion, but IMHO, that one breaks request #1 "Don't want a silver disco board in the middle of my dash." Thanks.

Also, BIG THANKS from one of the regulars in the Audio section for your "informed conrtibutions".

all doubdins should fit in a double din spot well most of the time post a pic of the dash or check like crutchfield to see the pathfinder is compatable with a double din
