Hey guys,

Not sure if this belongs in the Audio/Visual section because it pertains specifically to 90-93 G50's. If it's in the wrong place though, feel free to move it.

I'm looking at some touch screen double din GPS/DVD units. I found a 6.95" one at Best Buy. Their site however says that it won't fit the Q. I remember seeing someone's G50 here that had a double din installed. I'd like to know if it's possible or will dash modifications needed? I'd really love it if no mods were needed being that I installed the burl kit recently.

should be fine.

however, knowing what I know you have a hell of a lot more to do to your Q before you start messing with non-essential stuff like stereo.

The trans improved after the flush. I think I want to stop worrying about it. I did the diagnostic a couple of times. It came back "OK". I know that the fluid is clean and is conditioned. From what I've been reading, I think it might be the torque converter (Don't hold me to that.) that's not performing 100%. I'll know for sure after I get the mounts done.

add that cooler! on a 90-93 its SUPER ULTRA easy, takes like 20 mins at most if you are mechanically retarded. you dont even need new hoses, just unplug the hoses form the stock cooler, plug them into the aftermarket cooler and shove it in between the radiator and condensor.

Here ya go. Pioneer AVIC-D1 Fit with no modification. There is a gap at the bottom that is not really visible when in the car. Get the adapter that plugs into your existing harness and learn about how you existing system works before starting this project.

Ooooh. Nice.

My existing system is quite the mystery. I bought the car with an aftermarket Blaupunkt head unit. It was a great system, but it was lacking a CD player. So I swapped it out for a Sony MP3 cd player. The only thing I know for sure is that the stock Bose speakers have been bypassed. Or they've been removed completely.

So that went right in with no hassle? Nice.

After all of my mechanical stuff is done, I want to redo my speakers and get the double din system. I'll tint the windows to foil thieves.

The rounded corners can be tight but otherwise its a standard 2xDIN opening. Check out the units with removable portable navigation.

I don't know if I want that. But thanks for the suggestion Jesda.

How do you load the nav cd's? It looks like one big screen. Is it better to get the one with the hard drive? I'd love to not have to worry about cd's anymore. I have a metal case that has like a ton of cd's plus a stack of cd's in the bottom bay underneath my radio. And I've been making mp3 cd's too. I bought my current head unit with the intention of plugging my iPod into the AUX jack in the front. I had to 86 that notion because the sound quality is TERRIBLE. It sounds like I don't have door speakers and everything is coming from the back.

Any way to fix that? Or is that just the way the cookie crumbles?

They all use DVDs or hard drives now. I havent seen a CD nav system in a long time. The DVDs have enough capacity for the US, Canada, and sometimes Mexico so you dont need a hard drive unless you want something faster or want onboard MP3 storage.

I like the idea of MP3 storage. If the nav DVD is in, what am I supposed to do for music, you know?

The screen opens to expose 2 slots. One for the Nav dvd and one for the cd/mp3 player. The hard drive model costs quite a bit more

Ahh. Interesting. Good to know. I guess the hard drive one isn't as necessary to me as I thought it was. But if can get one for a good price, I think I'll go for it.
