I did a topic search here and didn't find what I was looking for answer-wise, (and I wanted to open up a new thread on the subject)

Basically, is there any kind of Double DIN bezel that is a little more cost effective? I looked on Ebay and Amazon and anywhere else and the cheapest I found was $150. (and don't troll me about cost of injection plastic molding vs sales profit. $150 for a bezel is assinine)

I'm seriously thinking about hitting up one of these "part-out" Craigslist ads for a second bezel and altering it with my new Dremel (if this thing can grind up a plenum it'll handle a plastic bezel lol)

Anyhoo....suggestions?

Wow those crickets are loud! I take it this is either a sore subject or one horse that's been beaten to death.

So instead, I'll throw some pics up that I wanted to experiment with. These follow the "flush-face" look instead of the sunk in look of the aftermarket bezels. Of course they'll require a factory bezel to be altered, but that'll be way less expensive anyway. The one I really like tho is the install that puts the head unit in the space where the heat/air vents are. The reason I like this option is I don't really use the center vents anyway and I'll have a space for the Pioneer DEQ 7600 that I want to put underneath.

Just so you know we're alive here... :gapteeth:
I personally am not into this area of modification, but having seen the threads over the years it is something that has been hashed over and I've seen a few examples of modded DIN's and also some of the others you showed.
My own take is that at $150 the price isn't out of line with the bloated costs of nearly anything for the Z32 especially for upgrade mods like that ($50 for dash rings! Which I bought twice...) and so if you want to play, you just gotta pay or devise your own solution that you can live with.

I'm really leaning towards modifying an existing bezel that I'll get from a junkyard. I can pick one up for $15-20 or so. I'll start on this in a few weeks once I get the Pioneer DEQ and go with the option that uses the heat/ac vent area, and throw some pics up.

A lot of the DIY mods seem to leave undesirable blemishes and nicks from dremel work, if you come up with something attractive you might get some traction... :gotme

Oh yes, and despite cleaning it up with some very fine sandpaper, I'll be obtaining a second bezel from a junkyard and trying it on that one. (hopefully I'll get it right the first time)

And from what I've been told, the max heat output from a car heater is negligible and any kind of plastic will suffice to block the two vents. One guy even showed me a trick for putting little bullet horn tweeters in the door vents which was pretty cool.
