i accidentally posted this on the "general chat" on the home page... meant to post here...

anyone know of dot approved racing harnesses?i want to get some clubman harnesses, but i fear i will have trouble passing inspection... anyone out there have a racing harness (dot approved or not) that has experience with any of this please help me out...

i don't want to spend $100 on a harness that will get me into trouble with the law or otherwise.... the whole idea here is to UPGRADE my seatbelts, as the stock '92 240sx fastback seatbelts just don't make me feel safe for some reason... it may be because they are PIECES OF CRAP!!!!!

how the hell are these things DOT approved? dot approval must be pretty crappy... but that also makes me wonder how the hell these racing harnesses (such as sparco, etc.) are not dot approved . i feel like if i got into a front end collision with my stock belts in place i would either die, or require major reconstructive surgery on my face that would ultimately fail anyway because of how stiff the stock steering wheel is ... man i hope i never hit my head on that thing... OUCH.

anyway any help would be appreciated... just looking for something that will keep me safe and hold me in snug (by the way i'm getting a racing seat too).

Any type of racing harness will not be DOT approved, and aftermarket seatbelts will not be approved, etc. Nor will racing harnesses ever be DOT approved because a racing harness has to hold you so tight that you can't move and it almost hurts. If you have any slack in the racing harness you will more than likely be killed in an accident.

like they've said, there are none, however if you use a harness and put your stock seatbelt over it, i dont think cops would give you problems

passing inspection with a harness is all in who you know. If you know the guys at the shop very well, you're more apt to get it to pass. Otherwise, you'll probably get the big old "failed" sticker.
