anyone know of dot approved racing harnesses?i want to get some clubman harnesses, but i fear i will have trouble passing inspection... anyone out there have a racing harness (dot approved or not) that has experience with any of this please help me out...

i don't want to spend $100 on a harness that will get me into trouble with the law or otherwise.... the whole idea here is to UPGRADE my seatbelts, as the stock '92 240sx fastback seatbelts just don't make me feel safe for some reason... it may be because they are PIECES OF CRAP!!!!!

how the hell are these things DOT approved? dot approval must be pretty crappy... but that also makes me wonder how the hell these racing harnesses (such as sparco, etc.) are not dot approved . i feel like if i got into a front end collision with my stock belts in place i would either die, or require major reconstructive surgery on my face that would ultimately fail anyway because of how stiff the stock steering wheel is ... man i hope i never hit my head on that thing... OUCH.

anyway any help would be appreciated... just looking for something that will keep me safe and hold me in snug (by the way i'm getting a racing seat too).

i posted this up under general chat as well because i wasn't sure which forum to put it on...

scroth harnesses are street-legal - http://www.rennsportsystems.com/schroth.html.

My honda-tech buddy from SCCA also said he thinks that all 5-point harnesses (safely installed) will qualify for DOT-approval (I'm not sure though, becuase I have a Simposon 5-point & their web site says "all seatbelts for off road only").

Two thumbs up for Scroth.

They are the only DOT harnesses that I know of.

Schroth also makes these http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/s...#1536

Expensive, but you can do away with your regular seatbelt without worrying about sacrificing comfort for safety. I want some.
