Search only pulled results for locking keys in the car or autolock after unlocking and not pulling door handle within a set amount of time (unless Im getting old and dont have my search skills anymore, which is entirely possible). So it goes like this...

I just went to pick up my car from the hospital (long story for another thread). I parked the car Wednesday, locked it as normal, walked away. Today when I was discharged my fiance came to pick me up, she went to my car to grab a few things, locked it, and came and got me from the pickup area. Tonight we got dropped off to go pick the car up. When we get there both windows are open, both doors are unlocked, and the interior lights are on. I immediately think someone has smashed out my windows and ran it. We get in, all of my belongings are still there, start it up and roll up the windows which are still intact. Two seconds later it sounds like the car is trying to unlock itself, like the mechanisms are clicking for no reason. We shut it down with the windows up, get out, lock it from the door handle button. About 15 seconds later the windows roll down, doors unlock on their own. Get in and drive it home.

When I get home, I try doing the auto window reset just for S's and G's and the windows completely deactivate, cant roll them up or down. Car still continues to click the lock mechanism on its own. So basically, the car is unlocking itself every few minutes and rolling both windows down on its own. I was able to roll the windows up, lock it, and then disconnect the battery so it safe for tonight.

Any ideas? Im hoping that leaving the battery disconnected will "reset" the computer (15 minutes I think?). There is clearly something wrong electrically. The car must have been doing this for hours today, my volt meter which normally reads 12.8 when the car is cold and sitting was around 11.2 when we just got there (I know because that was one of the first things I checked was still in the car).

Sounds crazy.
But perhaps its your remote? if not something that triggers the mechanism?
Convenience package offers auto window roll down if the unlock button is held for a few seconds.
When the remote unlocks the car the lights come on and if held the windows roll down.
Had something similar happen to me on new years.
It was raining out unfortunately so my whole interior was soaked!
I came out windows were down, lights on and car was unlocked.
Had to replace the battery on my remote shortly after.

^Thought about that and already changed the battery. At first I also thought that maybe my fiance held the unlock button and rolled the windows down, or it got wedged against something in her purse as she drove away and did it. But it kept doing it, even while we were driving the locking mechanism was clicking the whole time. Maybe I'll pull the fob battery, reconnect the car battery, and see what happens. Irvxing that worked for you? It only happened one time?

Its definitely not a fuse, everything is still working properly, its just working on its own.

Yessir that did it for me.
It happened a few times. Doors unlocking on their own while in the car, and out.
Came out to find my windows down on 3 occasions that i can remember. i hang my keys on a hook so i know nothing was holding the button down.
I disconnected the battery and changed the battery on my fob and that seemed to fix the problem.
Hope it fixes your problem.
Also, if you still have the spare fob try using it and see if the same problem continues.
Or if you have both fobs within the cars reading radius it might cause a little stir between them.
On the CTS-V Coupe i had both fobs in my possession and i couldn't get the door to open lol.
no hadles and little button to open the door from inside. (like the XLR)
They didnt open until i rolled the window down and chunked one of the fobs out of the car.

Dont have the spare fob, ex-gf lost that on me years ago...

I also thought that maybe my fiance's fob to her Mazda 3 interfered with it. It was just to odd, I guess as we pulled up to the car yesterday and the fob was in range it started going crazy, so it looked like it had been open for a while.

Anyway, Im not going to try anything just yet. I have torrential downpours heading into the area and I dont want to get stuck with the windows down.

Thanks for the input, Ill post back once I get a chance to go outside.

Or Ex girlfriend kept the fob and is back for revenge so shes fuxing with you. :tisk:
You should pull the fuse for the windows in the meantime to keep them up.
Good luck :bigthumb:

Seems like the car thinks you're holding down the unlock button on the fob or it thinks you've got a key in the mechanical key slot and are holding it in the unlock position. Doing either of those two things causes the car to unlock and if your car is so equipped, it will also roll down the windows. Once it stops raining, take the battery out of the fob then reconnect the car's battery. Use the mechanical key to unlock your door and see if the problem comes back. If it doesn't then the issue may be with the fob but if it does then you need to look into the mechanical key slot and associated switches/wiring - could be that something is shorting out a switch and making the car think it's being unlocked with the mechanical key.

YES. Thought about this too haha! After the week I've had this would only seem right.

Mkcompu I'm doing exactly what you have outlined once I have a break in the weather. I'm fairly confident the fob is malfunctioning

So this worked. I went outside and unlocked the car with the physical key, popped the hood, reconnected the battery. What I wasnt expecting was the alarm to go off as soon as I did. Disconnected the battery, assembled the fob with new button battery, reconnected car battery, disarmed alarm with fob. So far so good. Thanks for the input 'gents.

Side note: What a terrible design flaw! Show me that alert on the dash that the battery is low, dont roll my freaking windows down and unlock my doors! I wonder if the entire fob starts to go bad over time and works incorrectly with low voltage? Who knows, either way its stupid.

No we have one. You have never gotten into the car and been prompted by the alert screen to insert the fob into the port? Ive seen it a handful of times, then I just scoot my pocket closer to the dash and it reads it and Im good to go.

Ha yeah I've seen that too and I do the exact same thing. Maybe just hump the air a bit until it senses your key and then it's good to go!!

Ha, glad someone else understands.

Hey thanks for your help on my enclosure! I've got a few more questions on components, dash speakers, and how to wire them up the my amp. I'm gonna start a thread about them today and I'd appreciate your input if you've got the time!

Thanks b easy

You got it. Im not huge on component speaker brands and who is the best of the best (since that changes like every day), but I can sure help you get them wired up.
