So this has been an ongoing problem for me. When using both the key fob and the button on the door, the lock doesn't fully open. I either have to press it repeatedly until it opens all the way or go through the passenger side and unlock it. When pressing the buttons I can hear the locks struggling to open and when I went inside the car to see what was happening, I saw that the lock was only going out half way. Any ideas what could cause this and what I can do to fix it?

Hows the entire electrical system? Is anything else suffering? Like maybe just a voltage drop due to a bad battery?

pop the door and unhook the handle/lock cables, then play with the lock unlock see if the mechanism is completing a cycle and re attach the cables. and try again, it could be that the cables arent sitting properly or some other.

Altima service manuals call for lubrication of the door locks/cylinders every so often. I would check into that. It's not something I have ever actively done on any of my Nissans, but I haven't kept any of them long enough to see long term reprocussions of that. LOL.

Entirely possible there isn't quite enough juice to operate the power locks to their full potential as well. Given that your car is now coming up on 4 years of age, either scenario is a possibility.

If there isn't enough voltage to operate the locks then I doubt that the car will start @ all..
It must be a mechanical issue
