Hey everybody,

Co-worker of mine has a z32 whose driver door won't open from the inside, or the outside. Any hints, or good diagrams/cut away pics of the door? Tried doing a search but mostly came back with broken lock cylinders, which is not the problem here.

Had an account here years ago, but can't remember the login.

Thanks for any help

How do you know it's not a broken lock cylinder? The lock cylinder has plastic connectors for the door handles that frequently break, resulting in the door not opening.

I was under the impression that if the lock cylinder broke that the door would still open from the inside when unlocked.

This door won't open using the inside or outside handle either locked or unlocked.

Trying to avoid destroying the door card to get at the mechanism.

Depends, usually the linkage connector to the lock cylinder breaks. Both could have. Z1 sells a kit that will repair them, but it's a PITA to do it.

I don't believe it would be a lock cylinder issue. The interior lock is on a separate actuating rod as the cylinder. There's a possibility that the door latch actuating rod is messed up in some way, shape, form, or fashion. I wouldn't begin to be able to tell you how you could get to it with the door stuck closed, though. Only thing I can think of is to take the handle/window switches off, and look down in the door to see if the handle is actuating the rod. If not, there's your problem. Also check to see if the interior locking mechanism is actuating its rod. PITA, I know, but it's better than tearing the interior apart.
