So my buddy's Z door is possesed. When you lock the door (while the door is open) the second it closes it unlocks itself. There is no or never has been an aftermarket alarm on the car nor has an actuator been installed in the driver side door. Its a 1990 Twin Turbo ZX. However when the door is closed you can lock it and stays locked (when locking with the key or when locking from inside while door is closed) I noticed the little hinge that locks to the metal bar on the cars door way thing..when i take a screw driver and move that hinge on the door, while its locked, gets unlocked...what can cause this problem?

........you guys do realize in order to lock the car you need to get out of the car hold the outside handle open, lock the door, close the door, and then release the handle right? thats pretty much common knowledge with early 90's imports/sports cars.

wait thats not the same with mine. i used to have to do the "lock and hold handle technology" in my 90 240sx, but not with my 92 Z i lock, close door and forget.

Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me? Are you F'n kidding me? If you had to go to your computer and post this question to figure this out you should turn in your keys and go buy a Neon.

weird.... my driverside lock is broken , so i have to use the pass. door to lock and unlock. it locks and unlocks both sides with only one turn of the key. thankfully

My door sometimes happens this way. When I have the door open I lock it but it quickly unlocks itself before I can even close it. Also, sometimes it chimes after I turn it off and get out. The door will lock if I get out and use the key, I just wonder why the lock does that to it's self... Idea"s?

You do realize this thread is almost 7 years old. Thank you for searching.

If the locks unlock almost instantly, its because the ignition still thinks the key is in it. Make sure you hear the click from taking the key out, then they should lock. That little mechanism sticks sometimes, just spray some graphite grease in the tumbler that should help.

I just lock mine from the outside with the key. It keeps me from ever locking my keys in.

For those having this problem, you're not an idiot for asking.

My 1994 300zx apparently has newer type locks where once you lock the door, it stays locked. It's only when I needed to replace the latch mechanism that I ran into this problem. I bought a replacement off ebay from a 1990. Turns out it has different behavior from the one originally in my car. I confirmed this by manually locking the old one - the unlock doesn't move. At first, I thought I'd screwed things up. I suppose this is now motivation to get a replacement battery for my remote.

Remote? Z32? Sounds like an aftermarket door unlock system since as far as I've ever known, the Z32 doesn't come with door or alarm activating remotes or controls unless installed aftermarket after purchase.
School me if I'm wrong boys....but doubt it, I've seen a LOT of Z32's and looking at my TT's original order form, there's no area to order any type of alarm or door upgrades.

I believe it was a dealer upgrade option past '94. I've seen a Nissan keyfob on a Z key.

I've had a couple Mazdas that did the same thing and my 91 does it too... I always thought it was a fail-safe thing to keep you from locking your keys in.
