How hard was it to get the door panels off? I dont want to break any clips off the door panel. I need to replace the factory speakers, my drivers door mid seems to be gone. No real output compared to the right.

The fronts have 4 screws total you need to take out, then you just unclip all around, then slide it up a little and off,

Rear has only 3 screws i think that need to be removed along with some stuff unclipped then just unclip the door, slide up.

Make sure you've got a panel popper because if you don't pull the actual clip it will break the backer on the inside of the door panel which is nothing but glorified cardboard.

No s*** eh, I was surprised to see ther wood thin mdf like crap that was my door panel, simply wrapped in pretty black leather lol

Clips break alot easier in the cold, try and get the car warm in a garage or something if its your first time ever removing it. Dont be discouraged if a few of them shatter or just break, there cheap and dont have to be bought from the dealership

One of my rear speakers is a little screwed up and I was thinking of replacing it with some 6.5 Alpines that I have, but Crutchfield says that these speakers will only fit with some modifications. Anyone have a pic of the door with the panel off? Also, did anyone have problems fitting 6.5's in the stock mounting bracket?

I ripped off the plastic bracket around the stock Bose speakers for all four speakers and used those as ghetto speaker adapter brackets. 6.5" speakers fit fine with no other modification. The following pic is without the stock speaker adapter bracket, though, but it should give you an idea. The screw holes didn't line up perfectly without the bracket, but I was still able to screw the speaker in.

Sweet thanks for that pic. I'll try to install these Alpines of mine since one of the stock rear speakers is driving me nuts. One more question though; are the front and rear speakers identical? I would maybe put the fronts in the back and put the Alpines in the front if they are the same.

Update. I purchased the mb quarts. To my surprise they did not come with speaker wire nor terminals to connect to the speaker

The question I have is. When I replace the door speakers. Should I leave the amp in order to power the factory tweeters? If so which wire colors and which is positive and negative. need to be cut before the amp in order to send to the door speakers.

I am assuming the tweeters are 2ohm. Therefore unable to be powered off the head unit. Thanks I have aftermarket headunit installed already. Thanks.

If I recall correctly, the tweeters are 4-ohm. It's possible to wire them in series with the door speakers to achieve something other than a 2-ohm load, but I just left the tweeters disconnected in my case and bypassed the amp wiring and removed the rear stock amp from the quarter panel. All four of my door speakers have their own tweeters as seen in my picture above, so it's not too big of a deal. I'm not sure if you can preserve the stock amps in order to use the tweeters and just run your own speaker wire, sorry. Hopefully someone else knows. If you do end up using the tweeters, I highly recommend doing this mod as it'll lower their cutoff frequency and they'll produce more sound.

Thanks. Anybody know the proper wire colors in order to jump over the amp? Thanks

Your FSM should tell you. If you can't figure out the schematics I can take pictures of the required connections.

Okay, I found them for you.

Front left: Purple & blue/yellow and light green & blue/green
Front right: Blue/red & blue/yellow and blue/green & blue/green
Rear amp: Pink & light green, blue & black/yellow (left) and light green & orange, purple & black/pink (right)

I believe these to be correct. Verify them at EL-151 and lower if you wish. I would remove the rear Bose amplifier, since you won't be needing it.

I did what towncivilian did, use stock adapters and installed new alpine 6.5 speakers and unplugged tweeters. I ran all new wiring to a kicker amp.

Connect your head unit as normal, and solder the wires I mentioned together (i.e. purple & blue/yellow are two wires in the front left at the amplifier harness).

Ok so I finished it up today. Sounds amazing. Clarity, loud good mb quart fka 116 are impressive

Two wires come from after the harness on both sides. Purple and yellowish gold wires. Purple is positive. Yellow is negative.

The purple and gold/yellow wire go to the amp stock. Cut these from the amp harness and connect to your new speakers this easy mod bypasses the amps.
