Does anyone have the specs on the front and rear door speakers in the 06-07 M35/M45?

I'm looking to replace them all but I'm not sure of the existing sizes and ohm ratings.

Since theyre bose, they are going to be really low impedance (1.5 ohms or so)

I'll take a look at the Service Manual and see if it says anything ...

You are correct...I installed Boston Acoustics Pro60 speakers which are 6.5 inches in diameter.

Front and rear doors are both 6.5 inch and have a 2 ohm impedance. If you swap them out for 4 ohm speakers without adding an amp, you will get very little volume from the factory amp.

Thanks guys! That answers my question. My subs were just installed this weekend and sound great, but I'd like to proceed with replacing the door speakers.

I will be adding an additional amplifier to power the replacement door speakers.

JoeMezz,

Did you need the CleanSweep because you have an existing Bose system or was this required regardless of Bose or no Bose? I was under the impression that if I didn't have a Bose setup that a straight Hi/Low converter could be used to seperate the signals for the front / rear speakers via RCA's to a 4-channel amp?

Just curious.

Thanks again.

To be honest with you, I relied totally on the installer who I've been using for over 10 years now. He felt that since I am going to use the OEM head unit, then I would need the CleanSweep to effectively correct the response of the factory-equalized signal. The difference in the output signal seemed pretty dramatic to me. Also, it allows you to interface your iPod through a high quality line level input without having to use an FM Modulator.

Thanks again. Yeah, my installer recommended the Audio Control LC8 if I were going to replace the door speakers. I wasn't sure if it was necessary since I didn't have the Bose setup.

Now that I researched both the LC8 and CleanSweep, I believe I do need one of these units.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Infinititech,

question for you on the door that covers the ski port. Do you know how I can remove this? I see 1 tab on each side at the bottom of the door, but I can see a way to remove it without breaking the tabs.

I'm going to fabriate a frame to cover the hole covered with grill cloth so the bass can come through withou see the subs.

thanks.

Cleansweep or LC8 is the way to go.

To remove the door you must take out the rear seat and there is some 10mm holding the whole assembly to the metal behind the seat. I have a bandpass enclosure and have the port coming through the ski hole and it sounds great.

Take out the Rear Seat??? Oh man, that is way too much for me to handle.

Taking out the rear seat is pretty easy stuff man. If you don't feel up to it, have your local stereo shop pull it out for you.

Hi Baller,

If you feel inclined to do so, can you give me a step by step on how to go about removing the back seat. If it's easy enough I'll give it a whirl. If it's not asking too much maybe some pics to go with the how to.

Hi Sheidari,

I would recommend asking guys here and the caraudio.com forum about various speakers and such for replacing.

The choice is yours on brand and types. Size is important. The guys here pointed out that 6.5's are required for our doors, so that should be a good starting point. As for power though, I'm not sure if the OEM head unit will be enough to power a good pair of components for the front doors, and some coaxes for the rears. You may need to upgrade to an amp.

If you are interested I have a new one, I've decided to upgrade.

Let me know.

Can I replace/upgrade the sub only in my M45 ? I am really surprised and disappointed at the total lack of mid-range in this car. I had a Mercedes Benz CL500 with a Bose system that was fantastic. I would appreciate your suggestions/thoughts.

I'm sure you could, but I would check with a really good audio installation shop in your area that does custom work.

More than likely, since you have the existing Bose system and signal summing device will be needed to circumvent the Bose signal in order to go to a seperate amp to a new subwoofer. To use the existing location for the sub for a replacement may require a fiberglass type of enclosure.

There are some free air subwoofers out there that can use the trunk as an enclosure therfore eliminating the need for a "box" for the sub. Infinity has such a sub, it has a very high sensitivity rating over 91db per watt, I believe.
