ok so the other day my brother took my car and left his lighter in the side door pocket (what ever).... last night i drove home my friends house like normal.... today when i get in the car to go to my friends house again, i see the lighter broken into several pieces and thrown around in my car..... my brother didnt have my keys so that means someone was in my car last night.... i thought i locked the car but i guess not

-REAL QUESTION

the reason why i started this thread is to ask if theres some sort of defect with the door locks? i lock my car every time i get out BUT 50% of the time the car is unlocked when i try to get in it..... my mom has the same issue with her 07 Maxima that has the same type of key fob.... has anyone else noticed there door always being unlocked without them unlocking it?

Umm.. The only time my car has ever been unlocked over night (and someone stole my Ipod) it was because I forgot to lock it. Are you sure you're not accidentally pressing the button on the car twice when you're locking it, thus locking it and then unlocking it again? Or, do you have a younger sibling who could be playing with yours and your mom's key fobs and not telling? Or could you be just accidentally pressing the unlock button yourself on the fob without realizing it? I don't know any other way that could happen... You should make sure when you come home at night that your car is locked when you lock it, pull both handles and make sure, and then keep the key fob out of your pocket and put it in a drawer or something over night and check in the morning...

yea i had that happen to me before. freaked the hell out of me when it wouldnt lock. the thing with the key is that its on a radio frequency, so if theres any kind of interference with the signal (ie-radio tower) then it wont work. only thing i can really recommend is to check to make sure you doors are locked.

i'm not trying to sound like a smart a.. but why not hand locking it from the inside as you get out your car.. Does that work? or does it ult. rely ion the auto-lock?*fob*

one time i was messing with my friend and acting like i was going to drive off and leave them (yes i know, being stupid lol) but anyways, i got in the car and had my key in my pocket and started the car... closed the door and then pressed the door lock button on the side door panel in the car... doors locked and then the car made a beeping sound and unlocked the doors on its own and i was like WTF??? i was just messing around but if someone was after you and you tried to get in and lock your doors, that could be a big safety risk if the doors unlock themselves when ever they want

Not pertaining to your random unlocking incidents, but cig. lighters explode when left in a hot car, I've had it happen in a friends car before. The butane just spontaneously combusts and the plastic shrapnel just goes everywhere. So I doubt anyone got into your car and broke the lighter and threw the pieces everywhere. We found little neon green pieces of lighter all over the seat, in the door pockets, and in the back seat.

lol yea cuz 1st i was thinking "how do u throw a lighter that hard, inside a coupe, and it explode?" lol "did they smash it on the ground and then sprinkle the remains inside the interior? " lol those were the 1st questions that came to mind. lol

Ya the lighter I think might just be spontaneous combustion. However sometimes when the fob is in your pocket you can accidentally hit the unlock button and they have a pretty decent range... However i doubt someone threw the lighter on the ground and made it explode then picked the pieces up to put them back in your car haha.

I would agree with the exploding lighter but it shouldn't get that hot in your area. I've never been there but for the most part Cali has pretty decent weather all across the board. I have a lighter that stays in my car at all times and it's been there for months and hasn't even gotten really hot (although my cigarettes were about to boil) So I don't know about that one, was it a cheap tweaker lighter or a bic ???

As to the doors, I know if you push the lock button while a door is still open it makes that sound, you might not have shut the doors completely, that's my only guess

and about unlocking I say either... You are pushing the button on the door handle too many times (I use fob to lock and unlock not the buttons), are pressing the wrong button on the fob, or just pushing the unlock button on the fob while you are doing something (sitting on keys and the such)

just checked my car now and it turns out that it did explode but thats surprising since it exploded at night when its much cooler... i thought something was sort of weird but i dont smoke anything but hookah every once in a while and we use a burner or a torch to light the coals.....

when the doors unlocked, my door was closed right.... it was weird. i unlocked the car and got in and started the car and locked the doors and it unlocked them and then my friend got in and i pressed the lock button again and then it locked them no problem....

I remember the Sacto area getting pretty hot during the summer, especially if you didn't have AC (like my friend in high school).

My sedan does the same thing if you lock the doors right after starting. If I wait a second, they lock (and stay locked). Was the timing of the first lock similar?

Remember, if you have a fob in your car (a 2nd fob) the doors wont lock as a safety feature so you dont lock your keys in the car... I dont think this is the case here, but just food for thought.

ya i locked the doors right after i started the car and it unlocked them..... i HATE letting my brother borrow my car! it never gets returned the same as he got it and then you have to fight with him just to put you how much gas there was when he took it and if you dont he just wont put gas in it and return it empty..... he's gone through soooo many cars, only car to last him more then 2 years was a 4x4 Expedition and when he got rid of it the transmission was going out, the AC, the alternator, and the list goes on...... sorry.... when ever he takes my car it just gets me mad but theres nothing i can do... well, im done with my little rant lol

Keeping the fob in your pants pocket can lead to all sorts of interesting experiences. I heard my car alarm go off when I was raking leaves in the back yard the other day. Remembered I still had the fob in my pocket and I had obviously hit the "panic" button on it while I was working. It's also gone off when cleaning the windshield from just leaning on the car. I usually put the fob on the counter at home after I've locked the car to prevent this sort of thing. Even the fold of your pants when you are sitting down can trigger the thing if you leave it in your pocket. The only times I've found my car unlocked in the morning can probably be traced back to the over-sensitivity of the fob's buttons after leaving it in my pocket.

I have actually locked my keys in the car once I was at a concert down here and went back to my car for a couple drinks only to find my keys sitting on my seat. I have no idea how that happened I still had that battery in that fob for a couple more months before it started dying

There are dead spots in our cars. Especially the trunk and right behind the seats.

I agree with the other posts, it just sounds like you're hitting the buttons by accident. I do this a few times. I've come out in the morning with the car unlocked because I threw the keys on the desk and it hit the unlock button. I dunno, I stopped using the key fob to lock and unlock. I use the door panel buttons and the button on the handle to unlock/lock. (y).
