I don't ever use my key to unlock the door, I always use the remote. While I was washing my car a few days ago I was wondering if I should put some graphite or something in there to keep it all working well? I just don't want to find out that it's all jammed up when my battery is dead. Does anybody here do something special to make sure the manual lock keeps working?

The tumbler mechanism will wear out from use before it'll wear out from disuse. Certainly can't hurt to have a small tube of graphite flake or powder in the car I guess.

I just realized thanks to this thread that I've NEVER used the key to unlock my Q45.

If you search around the forums for early-90s models here, you'll find a lot of posts about worn out locks. When keys are inserted and removed repeatedly over the years, they key wears in the lock and things stop working. At first, a new non-worn key will solve the issue. But the key isn't the only thing suffering. The lock is wearing, too. My Maxima has gotten to the point where not even a BRAND NEW freshly cut key by Nissan from my master key reference number will open the trunk, because the tumbler is so worn. This is actually where graphite comes in most handy.
