heres the scoop

my driver side door will not lock, you cannot turn the cylinder (where you put the key in) and if you lock it from the inside it still will not lock the door. the passenger side door locks perfectly fine from the outside and inside and will also lock when you flip the driver side switch (power locks) what would cause this? ive had the door skin off before and havent seen anything unhooked/broken. i would like to fix this because just recently i had some belongings stolen from my car and i know thats how the theives got into my car. help would be greatly appreciated i did run a search before posing btw

Sounds like there's some binding on the rod that connects the door latch on the inside to something. Since you're having issues with your key turning, I would look at the rod that connects the outside handle to the inside knob.

Sounds like a bad power window solenoid. Luckily, the 240 doors are easy to take apart.

As what I have experience most common issue with this is that the link arm has become disconnected from the door latch. Sometimes the rod retainer clip for the link to the door lock button mechanism gets loose or broken, thus it won't allow you to lock the door or it could be that the latch mechanism is broken.

Fixed that for ya.

I'm hesitant to blame the motor itself as the door knob switch is located in the motor. If the latch bars are causing the issue, they could be preloading and unlatching the knob while allowing the motor to sense that the latch has locked and keep the other door locked. If the knob itself was just popping back into unlock, the bar would move, and the motor would send the signal to unlock both doors.

20 year old plastic retainer clips are hitting the age where they are likely to break. I'm really thinking the issue lies in the clips or the bars themselves.

ok so i had it apart today and all the rods are connected and all the plastic clips are intact. i noticed if i flip the lock switch the door wont lock but if i flip it and kinda hold/push on the lock the door will lock only if i keep pressure on the lock switch. also when i flip the switch the door lock motor kinda goes crazy like it kinda unlocks then locks againg but doesnt actually do anything. why would it lock if i only keep pressure on it? no rods were bent looking to me

It might be the door lock actuator then. Disconnect the metal rod that goes to it and see if your knob switch is still being hard to move. If the knob is moving fine, you may want to consider replacing the actuator.
