My Driver side door locks itself automatically anytime I use the key fob, door lock switch, or manualy toggle the door lock tab. If I jam a slimjim near the handle, I can use the key fob to unlock the door. I'm not going to lie to you, this really sucks. Anyone have any experience with this problem, or any insight on how to fix it? I'm thinking of tearing the door panel off and looking for a short.

Sounds like you need a new actuator.

My 1984 J30 does the same thing. It drives me crazy. Last month, after starting my car and turning on the AC ( it was 110 degrees outside) I had to run back into the house and accidently closed the door. One key was in the ignition and the spare was in my purse sitting in the front seat. Boy did I feel like an idiot. I ended up having to call out a tow truck to open the door for me. So as you can obviously tell I am by no means a car expert, not even close. So my solution is very simple. Hide-a-key. I did have a problem finding a place to stick the magnet until I found a hide-a-key with industrial stregth velcro. I know mine is not the answer you were looking for but it does work. Good Luck!

Sounds like a timer issue .Ditto on Fuzzycats.com.

Took apart my door panel and lubed everything with some WD-40.

correct me if Im wrong .But if the door locks/unlocks with the rocker switch on the drivers door, the actuator is OK.It actuates when its told to.If the door locks/unlocks by itself its a timer issue.

The drivers door never fully unlocks. If I use the drivers side rocker switch, you can hear the doors unlock, and then they immediatly lock again. I am fishing for something mechanical on the inside of the door, or an intermittent electrical short near the rocker switch. The drivers side door can be unlocked and stay unlocked for a day or two using a slimjim and the keyfov in a ridiculious fashon.

Having same problem, only pass front door. Door will not open from inside or out. Door lock handle on inside can't be moved manually.

Is it the actuator or the timer that is wrong or broken.

Problem started with the door not closing. moved the latch to get door to close.

Well, I think I found the cause of the problem on my car.

The handle on the outside doesnt fully retract , not lettin the locking machanism get enough play to open the door.

Try to "reset" your handle, and see if that works.

How can I get the door open. It is locked shut.

Would the lock timer or actuator stay on? Or kill the battery?

if the door locks itself its not the actuator but the latch, which is prone to fail on 95 and earlier cars I am pretty sure, and its also cheaper.
