Door lock chirp vs. horn

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

When I lock the door of my EX35 using the button on the door, I hear a double chirp. When I lock it with the lock button on the key, I get the horn beeping twice.

The horn sound is loud and really annoying. Does anyone know how to switch it off, and get the normal electronic chirp sound that you have when you press the button on the door?

i'm not sure you can. I know what you mean tho, i wish there wasn't that annoying honk.

then again i can understand why it's that way. If you're close enough u just touch the side of the door. if you're that far away and further away, the horn is very clearly audible that you locked the car.

when i first bought the 09 i realized i got out of the car in the EX totally differently than normal cars. I would step out, lock the handle, pull the handle to make sure it was locked and walk away.....after awhile it was just all one fell swoop.

all my other cars as i'm walking away i hit the lock button.

one of the pros to the way this is set up is i really never have to take the key out of my pocket, ever

I would think it must be adjustable though.

On my old G35 I used to get the chirp instead of the honk with the remote. The Maxima only did the honk, but it never had the speaker that made the chirp noise.

It's also possible on most cars to turn of the honk altogether.

I figured it out. It's in the manual. There are 2 door lock indicator modes.1) Hazard mode where only your hazards flash when you lock the car with the remote.2) Hazard and horn mode where the horn honks.

To switch between modes:Push the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds to switch from one mode to the other. When pushing the buttons to set hazard indicator only mode, the hazard indicator flashes 3 times. When pushing the buttons to set hazard indicator and horn mode, the hazard indicator flashes once and the horn chirps once.

Yeah... one of the first things I did was change that option so it doesn't honk. Note though that in the hazards-only mode, when you press UNLOCK on the remote, you don't get any flashing/sound from the car at all (maybe the interior light turns on; not sure). I guess that's less critical than getting feedback for the LOCK button though. I only rarely use the remote to unlock anyway.

I usually use the button on the outside handle to unlock. To lock, as I'm opening the door and getting out I press the button on the inside of the door (or if I'm getting something out of the back, I press the button on the outside of the hatch after I close it). Occasionally I lock it with the remote if my hands were full as I was getting out or I forget whether I locked it.

i must've glossed over that part...cuz i kinda recall reading that... before i go back to look in the book (already put it back too lazy to go get it again); are you pressing the lock and unlock button on the key fob simultaneously? or inside the car?

you press lock and unlock simultaneously on the fob, until you see the indicator lights on the car flash 3 times. This indicates the horn mode is now switched off. If you do it again it will switch horn mode on.

I am happy to be rid of that honk. It really does not befit a luxury car.
