Door handle request button only locking doors

Hello. We just purchased a 2012 Nissan Quest last month and are really loving it.

One thing that we've only been able to take half-advantage of is using the door handle request button on the driver's and passenger's side to lock and unlock the car when the key fob is in a pocket or purse. The button will lock all of the doors, but when pressed again, it will not unlock them. It just continues to lock the door and honk once. It doesn't matter how long we wait before pushing it again, it will only lock the doors.

If we push one of the buttons on the sliding door handles, the door will slide open and it will unlock the vehicle, but we don't always have a reason to open those doors, so it's more of an annoyance to unlock it that way. The buttons on the fob itself work to lock and unlock the doors.

Any ideas as to what the problem may be? Any way to easily reset the key fobs to see if that would help?
