I noticed recently that the door handle light doesn't come on anymore for either side of the car. Is there a fuse for this?

Hmmm...do any of your other lights not work? I'd check the EXL (I believe) section of the FSM too.

Everything else works, just these lights stopped. I'll take a look at the manual to see what I can find. Hopefully it's just a fuse.

My passenger side quit working not long after I got my car; it was just a burned out bulb. Dealer replaced it for free.

That could be what's going on. My passenger side went out first, then the drivers side. I'll have it checked out when I go for my next oil change.

So I took mu car in to have the door handles looked at and was told the bulbs burned out and couldn't be changed. That the only way to fix it would be to change the entire door handles, which cost nearly $500 each. Clearly this isn't the case, since armybrat had his changed for free. Does anyone know a DIY so I can do this myself?

I swear, the incompetence of some of the service techs/advisors is mind boggling ....

Yep. It's unfortunate, because this dealership has been stellar the past 3 years I've been going to them, but there has been some turnover in service department and I'm not sure what's going on with them now.

That the only way to fix it would be to change the entire door handles
the LED looks to be sealed inside the door handle, no way to get to that module without removing the handle, which after a quick perusal of the FSM appears very involved:
1. have to remove interior door panel (not hard, I have a DIY in the How To/FAQ section)
2. have to remove the door glass motor and door glass (seems a little more involved)
3. then you can get to the interior door handle bolts and connectors
4. outer door handle can then just slide backwards after removing the escutcheon (the small piece that contains the lock)

there are some used door handles on Fleabay for about $45-50 that are a little blemished - might be able to swap the innnards with your handles?? :gotme
I'd need to see a handle up close to see how it's all put together

hopefully this doesn't happen to me anytime soon, but might be making a DIY if it does, and who knows maybe I'll swap out the white LEDs for blue...

Yeah I should've clarified, the dealer replaced the handle for free.

If it either needs new handles or very labor intensive replacement then the $500 may not be so far off.
Shame on nissan for poor design either way....
