Door doesnt lock when engine is started.. help?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum! cant believe there's a forum for versa owners! Well.. I just got mine a week ago. paid $1500 plus tt&l for the versa s with the power package. after seeing how much a few of you guys paid for yours I'm beginning to think I could have gotten a better deal. sorry.. got a little off topic...

I cant seem to figure out how to make the doors lock when I turn on the car. they unlock when I turn the car off. the dealer guy said that the light has to go off before they lock.. my over head light is set on door mode. can someone help me out

Do you have an aftermarket alarm?my versa locks when i start my car n unlock when i shut it off.I have the digital 2way pager/remote start alarm.the dealer can set it to what ever i like it to do.i also dont recoment the auto lock feature when i alarm sets byitself.

the alarm was put in by the dealer.. its made by chapman. the dude at the dealer told me that when the dome light turns off the doors lock the doors dnt lock. they just unlock when the car is turned off, which is pointless because they never lock unless i lock them on my own.

Your alarm may be in the wrong mode. Alarms normally have 2 modes (active and passive). In passive, you have to lock the car each time you get out. In active mode, after X amount of time the car will check to see if you locked the car. If you haven't, it will lock the doors. I hate active mode. I ended up locking the keys of my sisters car when getting gas on a cold day. Good thing I had the window partially let down and a coat hanger

yeah mine locks when started,unlocks when engine is shut off andif i forget to set my alarm it auto arms after 10 mins but does not lock the doors.if some one tries to open the door ,it opens and the alarm and horn start to sound. i too locked my self out of previous cars.

If I were You i'd go back and tell them to set yours up the way you want it!

thanks for the help!!! i'm gona pay my dealer a vist on monday to see what they can do. when i went to get my alarm setup the tech dude pounded on my windows hard to set the alarm sensitivity... i thought he was gona bust my window... it was hard to watch him pound on my new car and the alarm is still not senitive enoug!

You shouldn't have to pound on the window. A better way is to kick the tire, that way they don't have to worry about damaging anything. When I had my alarm put in my truck, it was way too sensitive. Any car with the slightest rumble would set it off. I took it back in to have it adjusted and the tech would test the alarm by kicking the tire. I find that vibrations coming through the tires are just as strong as the ones that come through the door.
