Of course I park in no man's land and get yelled at.
When possible, if there is an open space next to a curb, I try to park as close as I can get to it. Either on the left or right, than instead of the open scary area of the parking lot. Of course I scuffed up my tires riding a few curbs but better than a dent I feel. Hug the curb, luv da curb!
The car next to you really has to be careless or an obvious douchebag to dent your car in this case ( In most situations, their door should not even be able to reach your doors). I feel there is more than enough space.
Also sometimes, I MIGHT park next to an expensive car. I am still in the air if these drivers care about there vehicle and are careful or they so rich they don't give a damn and open widely. Gamble

I tend to think they careful though.
I have really minimized the dents in parking lots this way for the past couple of years.
When I am stuck in the middle of cars, I just hope for the best. In my opinion, most people have been careful when around my vehicle. I have been lucky. I do have RARE paint nicks but not dents (from other doors). Like one or two really tiny ones. Not really anything considering the years.
